A pub with incredible atmosphere set in the 300 year old former wine merchant's cellars. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the food was divine! Hubby had the Lancashire Hotpot and I had a delicious port tenderloin with date puree, followed by an amazing cheesecake!

I got bored of going to the same old places for dinner on a weekend and we decided to give this place a try, it offers great selection of drinks and foods and at a reasonable price , we only had sandwiches but has a good choice of filling and style of bread, was worth the visit and could become... First time on visiting this pub I found it to be exciting, very unusual with old arch like rooms that will have been in its history wine cellars? Great selection of real Ales, good food and friendly staff. I will return.

The food was very well prepared - the sauce with the venison was excellent. We had the meal and wine deal. The wine wAs not the best but was very good value for the cost. We were well accommodated and my friends enjoyed it. Overall a v good experience. Would come again.

Visited Lancaster for the day and stumbled across this stunning bar by accident - it was a lovely day but we opted for inside seating just because its so welcoming. The bar was busy (to be expected) but the arches off the bar are intimate and welcoming and easily house groups or in our case couples. The wine selection is... More

Came here before a tour of Lancaster Castle. Quirky little place, situated in old wine cellars underneath the hustle and bustle of Lancaster. Friendly staff, lovely food and great service. All reasonably priced. We'll definitely be back!

Merchants is a "quirky" restaurant and is known for its barrel roof and part subterranean setting. I've eaten here at lunch time on several occasions and whilst I've never been badly disappointing, I've never left feeling wholly satisfied with the experience. The food is ok and portions ok and fairly priced. The staff are helpful but not the quickest. I... More

I visited this historic pub over a year ago to see a WWI Play " Journey's End" brilliantly performed by Lancaster University in one of the "Caves". I have been several times since and found excellent wine, beer and food.

Due to yet another train problem we were stuck in Lancaster following a meeting for 2 hours. This pub is 3 minutes walk from the station and the staff were friendly, food exceptional and has a decent selection of ales....
