Excellent lunch of chicken and mushroom pie, short crust pastry, mushy peas and chips and a couple of pints. Good atmosphere.

Then the roast lamb leg supposedly "Slow braised leg of Lune Valley lamb", tasted... More

The front of house service was fantastic however the chef cremated the medium rare steaks. Disappointing but the manager made amends by removing them from the bill. Desserts were good. Bad day at the office for the chef perhaps.

There were quite a few items on the menu that i would have liked to order but as I was ravenous, settled for the rumpsteak. Oh yum. Forgot to order a sauce but it didn't matter muck. The garlic bread was deliciious, too. Friendly staff and good selection of drinks. Lovely place!

Staff was very nice, atmosphere is nice too and food was also very good. Very traditional british cuisine such as bangers and mash, lamb stews, etc. The reason why it doesn't get a 5 is mostly because nothing really stood out. Everything was nice, but not excellent.

We've come here a few times now on our visits to the area, and we love it. The building itself is magnificent, and the new autumn menu has a great selection of seasonal meats and veg. Definitely one of the best places in Lancaster

The Merchants is a gem. Aside from the amazing interior (old wine cellars) they have a great selection of drinks and the food is pretty much always superb. I'm lucky it's the closest pub to my house 😊

It may be near the main road which can be a bit off putting, but you don't notice when you are sat outside as the seating area is quite enclosed though spacious. Great for outside drinks as partly under cover. We have eaten here many times this summer and the food is always good - not the cheapest, but still... More

We stopped off here as a last minute decision and were far from disappointed - Good food, great ambiance, wonderful staff. What more can one ask for and reasonably priced to boot! We will definitely be returning.
