Have deliberately waited 12 months to write any review as was so keen for the place to establish and work. Unfortunately things have regressed; not progressed. Food is overpriced and below average at best. Children are allowed earlier but not welcomed. Management refuse to acknowledge or accept any faults or criticism. Mainly empty most evenings including weekends, which echoes the... More

Popped in to meet up with my son who is leaving for New Zealand. I went for the "Legless Cow", a local brew from the Hillside Brewery in Longhope, Gloucestershire, which was incredibly hoppy & full of flavour. This was accompanied by a bowl of homemade chunky chips, which were hot, crisp & just like mamma used to make. The... More

First visit.Family evening meal just the three of us. Pub was very busy but were greeted immediately by a friendly waiter who was pleasant and attentive all evening (we like to tip well when we receive good service and I think he was pleased with his tip). Food was amazing. Daughter had battered haloumi and chips, my wife had an... More

I have been a fan of The Old Elm since my first visit last summer. My most recent visit was at the weekend. It's not on my doorstep however because I like it I am willing to keep travelling for the atmosphere, nice staff, good food and range of beer / lager. We sat outside at a table with a... More

Tried for the first time as it has changed hands in the last couple of years. We had starters of baked camembert and the goats cheese and pear salad both was excellent followed by calves liver which was cooked pink just as it should be and the pork, succulent meat and crispy crackling that had been cooked on the meat... Lovely roast dinner at The Old Elm tonight! Really great food! Very tender, tasty meat, vegetables cooked just right. Plenty of choice. Lovely puds! Fabulous presentation! Smaller meals for little people or the elderly. Excellent service! Great guys serving the meals. So cheerful ( even at the end of a long day! ) smiley, nothing too much trouble. Prosecco and... As I had an hour before my colleague would arrive I waited in The Old Elm. I didn't know it existed until I asked my customer if there was a McDonald's nearby and they said no but there's a pub around the corner. As I went in I noticed a cask ale sign stating real ale so I thought that... More

Really rate the food here. Good veggie options. It's nice to have a pub in churchdown that isn't filled with swearing and people too drunk to control the volume of their voice. Very pleasant atmosphere, good for a chilled out evening of a few pints and dinner. It's dog friendly and they have board games for entertainment

I visited here for Sunday lunch with my partner. I was impressed with the new decor in the pub. I haven't been here in a few years, so was really pleased to see how good the place was looking. I was a little surprised when the barman said that I would have to pay for a full extra meal when... More

The Old Elm (formerly Bat and Ball) reopened last year after a major refit and new owners. It looked great from outside, and we really wanted to like it as it's close to home. Unfortunately... first time we went, we sat near the door. Poor design means every time the door opens, the tables near the door get a blast of cold air. It was COLD. The... More
