This restaurant is a Harrogate institution. Some years ago when the long standing owner stepped down, it hit a very rocky and disappointing period, and it took us a couple of years to return, and a further year before we decided to chance it again. We dined on a Thursday evening, and both downstairs and upstairs were quite busy. We... More

We visited many years ago and were pleased to see it was still open. As you would expect from a specialty fish restaurant the quality of food was high. We both had mid-range offerings, some of the more exotic choices are quite expensive. It is a small restaurant and the tables are close together. The couple behind us argued (quietly)... More

The Drum and Monkey has long been a firm favourite. Our evening started with a slightly frosty greeting from the person later identified as the one in charge. Our order was very nicely taken by the waiter originally from Burgundy. The order was was one lobster from the starter menu £14.50 and one from the lobster festival menu which included... More

We had our table booked for 6pm but arrived around 20 minutes early. We were greeted by an enthusiastic waitress who showed us straight to our table. We opted for the 3 course Lobster Festival menu and wasnt disappointed! Everything from our starter through to the dessert was delicious. A hidden gem..

this restaurant has always been a great favourite of ours, fabulous atmosphere, great service but having dined there on Saturday evening and ordering the Thai Green Curry, which I have enjoyed in the past, I was dismayed to find the rice in a 'gloopy' mess within the curry sauce!! This wasn't at all how it should be. It certainly won't... More

Excellent meal , service at the table was friendly and attentive. The quality and presentation of both the starter and main course was really good. All 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed our choices, my sea bass was particularly tasty. Still the best fish restaurant around. Only criticism would be on arriving our greeting was distinctly frosty and were told our... More

We spent the first afternoon of a great weekend in Harrogate wandering around searching for a place to dine each evening, and stumbled across The Drum & Monkey - wow! Their East Coast Lobster Festival was under way and without further ado we grabbed a booking for a meal that turned out to be second to none. Right from the... More

Food was very nice oysters to start, followed by two of the hot shellfish bowls, again nice, only gripe was one of the waitresses seemed little out of sorts, and as I work in hospitality myself, I understand how this can happen, just a little abrupt is all, efficient waitress, just made us feel slightly unwelcome! The other waitress however... More
