Stayed here with my wife at the beginning of August for 3 nights. We had a delightful bedroom, recently refurbished, very clean and with excellent bathroom facilities. Breakfasts were substantial and our evening meals in the restaurant most enjoyable. This is essentially a pub offering slightly upmarket accommodation at fair prices. Three nights is the longest I would want to... More

Did have a Travelzoo deal for this so it was v.good value indeed. Spacious dining areas, nicely busy, and charmingly efficient and knowledgeable young waiters. Duo of Duck 1st course was delicious, especially the alcoholic cherries with the parfait! Also recommend the house wine - both red and white seemed v.good quality and quite delicious, apparently both S.African - red... More

My partner and I visited the Bear & Swan with friends recently. The beer battered haddock was huge and expertly cooked, the Seafood Linguine was really tasty. The only disappointment was the Lamb Rump, being large chunks of lamb it was a bit on the chewy side although tasty, I mentioned it to a member of staff who was very... More

We arrived on time for our 1pm booking, were shown to our table by one of the two barmen/waiters and given the menus to make our choices. The restaurant was busy and it took a while for our order to be taken. We were both hungry, so eagerly devoured the un-ordered bread and oil, which arrived unannounced, before our starters... More

We visited the Bear and Swan a few times now and have always had a great meal. The choice of food is great and the quality is superb. The beautiful village allows you to walk around, have a drink elsewhere before your meal and then settle in. The staff are well trained and know the menu. All round, very good.

The Bear and Swan was fantastic. After staying for 3 nights, I can only say good things about this B&B. The rooms were spacious, modern and clean. The service was friendly and the food was excellent. Sampling both the breakfast and evening meals, both impressed. Finally we found the B&B to be a great location, visiting Bath and Bristol (roughly... More

I'm sorry to hear you didn't experience our well renowned Fish and Chips at the Bear and Swan on your recent visit to us. We serve well in excess of 100+ Haddock and Chips each week because of the quality of the product and we pride ourselves on consistency with all of our food especially our homemade tempura batter. I do not usually write over-effusive reviews of restaurants, as I am usually disappointed by other peoples' reviews. However, once in a blue moon, I feel compelled to broadcast my excitement about a restaurant that I rate as excellent. The Bear & Swan is a restaurant attached to a popular upmarket pub. I had heard that the food was good... More

Escape the city at this handsome local in the heart of the foodie Mendips. Eat well in the woody, intimate and candle-lit dining room. The generous menu: locals look forward to steak night with meat sourced from Walter Rose butchers in Wiltshire. Bedrooms are up steep concrete steps from the courtyard (bit of building work going on next door but quiet at night). Find serene creams, decorative fireplaces, Egyptian cotton sheets and smart coffee machines.
