A really lovely lunch with friends at The Bear and Swan. The service was friendly, relaxed and professional. The food was excellent - good British dishes using excellent ingredients. I had the salmon starter followed by confit if duck leg. Others in the party tried squid and risotto and the beef. We all had an excellent meal in simple lovely... More

It's some time since we last visited in Chew Magna - always tricky to drive there as cars (everyone else's) get bigger! Still worth it however for lunch at the Bear & Swan - well-kept beer, a nice ambiance and really good calves liver & bacon - altogether very pleasant, so we'll be back.

Travelled to Somerset for wedding. Arrived a little late: no problem - delicious burgers for supper. Have provided accommodation in the last year: we had a very comfortable room. Great breakfast. Really helpful and friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. Would recommend this pub every time be it for a drink, meal or overnight stay.

Of the pubs in Chew Magna, this appeared the best. A nice welcoming atmosphere and menu. The fish and chips smelt nice, but you don't often see calves liver and it's a favourite of mine , so we both ordered that. It arrived with excellent fresh veg. The carrot in particular was cooked just right and the gravy full of... More

The service is excellent: very friendly, accommodating staff who treat you like one of the family. Child and dog friendly. Never a swear word or bad language in the bar. Food is consistently good and the steak night especially good value. Our favourite pub in Chew Magna.

My daughter ate here this week with her dad. She was so impressed she booked a table for the next day to take me. I can only say what a lovely place. We could take our little dog in, which is nice in the winter. Do not be fooled by the fact that you can take dogs in the bar... More

Have been here once before and again every dish of food was very good. The two steaks ordered were both a bit too overdone for what we asked for but nonetheless were good. Service was charming and they had a musical duo playing who were excellent. My only real issue was that despite it being packed with folk, we were... More

Travelzoo deal so terrific value. Part of OHH group. All 4 of us very impressed with the standard of food and efficient service. Good wine selection and draught beers. Three of us had lamb rump- probably the best I've ever had. Absolutely nothing to grumble about and as per previous comments - worth the full price. Chew is well served... More

Went mid afternoon for a Sunday Roast catch-up with girlfriends and both the service and food were lovely! Generous meat portions and a great vegetable selection. Good wine menu and delicious desserts. One word of warning just as we were arriving lots of families with small children were finishing up so I imagine our 3pm lunch wouldn't have been as... More

Description
Escape the city at this handsome local in the heart of the foodie Mendips. Eat well in the woody, intimate and candle-lit dining room. The generous menu: locals look forward to steak night with meat sourced from Walter Rose butchers in Wiltshire. Bedrooms are up steep concrete steps from the courtyard (bit of building work going on next door but quiet at night). Find serene creams, decorative fireplaces, Egyptian cotton sheets and smart coffee machines.
