I do not usually write over-effusive reviews of restaurants, as I am usually disappointed by other peoples' reviews. However, once in a blue moon, I feel compelled to broadcast my excitement about a restaurant that I rate as excellent. The Bear & Swan is a restaurant attached to a popular upmarket pub. I had heard that the food was good... More

LOVED this place!! It's a stone pub in a little village outside Bristol. The food was amazing. Literally! We had fish and chip with mashed peas that were incredible. A roast beef sandwich on homemade bread with fresh horseradish sauce. Cider and 2 desserts. The brownie was one of the best I've ever had. And we had another dessert that... More

Spent Sat night at the hotel that included breakfast and had a meal Sat evening there. It was PERFECT. The meal was excellent - three different steaks all cooked superbly, great presentation and service. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed mega comfortable with 5* walk-in shower room, and breakfast was relaxed and as much as you want. Location... More

I drive past this pub everyday on the route to work and have always thought how nice it looks with the big bay windows and get quite jealous watching people have their Sunday lunch there- so this Sunday I decided to finally visit and I'm glad I did :) The decor inside is very tasteful and in keeping with the... Came for a Friday evening meal with family, friendly welcome from bar staff and homely atmosphere. Lovely personalised chalk board with specials and events etc ... Gin of the week went down a treat - Ophir spiced gin! Delicious food with fab presentation and perfectly cooked, would absolutely recommend the fish dishes. Attentive staff throughout, with complimentary bread to start... More

Loved this pub, gorgeous decor and fantastic menu selection and food that will not disappoint. Had a scotch egg for the first time, yummo and the liver and bacon, wow! Portions are generous so two courses is all you need. Menu selection has something for everyone. Staff are polite, friendly and attentive. Winter would be gorgeous with the fireplaces lit.... More

A wonderful pub with great atmosphere. Our meals were excellent as was the service. There is a super menu covering all tastes, a bonus was the home made bread which was fantastic, even had to buy some to take home !!! Exceptional, well recommend a visit !

We were not expecting a late Saturday afternoon pub lunch to be anything more than burger and chips but this traditional find has a great menu. Starters of scotch egg and mussels in good sized potions were delicious. Main course pan fried trout served with sand fire really tasty and the kids would have been happier eating from the main... A very pleasant setting, especially the window seats. Unhurried service, quality food well presented from an Express, Al a Carte and Bar menu. A good range of draught beers as well. We will be returning as a bigger group next month.

We had a party of 8 for a lunch at the Bear & Swan yesterday. Service was excellent - welcoming, friendly and timely. Food was exceptional - we had a variety of dishes and all were cooked perfectly (and to order), were flavoursome and accompanied with a delicious mix of vegetables. Truly superb - can't be faulted

Description
Escape the city at this handsome local in the heart of the foodie Mendips. Eat well in the woody, intimate and candle-lit dining room. The generous menu: locals look forward to steak night with meat sourced from Walter Rose butchers in Wiltshire. Bedrooms are up steep concrete steps from the courtyard (bit of building work going on next door but quiet at night). Find serene creams, decorative fireplaces, Egyptian cotton sheets and smart coffee machines.
