We visited in early July. Tables were set up under tents in their parking lot and were comfortable distances from each other. We had a reservation and had to wait a bit for our table for six, but there was plenty of space to wait on the lawn.
Service was prompt and pleasant. The complimentary antipasto tray was a yummy surprise. Food was served quickly and all our meals were piping hot and delicious. Despite the fact that it’s a BYOB, which typically means higher food prices, our bill was extremely reasonable and we had plenty of leftovers to take home. We really loved it here and will definitely come back next time we are in town. Great job!!

We were seated upon arrival for our 7:00 reservation in an intimate dining room with 4 well space tables covered in crisp white linen. We were greeted by our very attentive server and our wine was opened and poured. We reviewed the menu and specials and placed our order. warm, fresh baked bread with butter and olive oil was served along with a complementary amuse bouche consisting of olives, grilled zucchini and yellow squash, caprese salad and hot peppers drizzled with balsamic reduction. My husband enjoyed a Caesar salad for his first course and I had their signature Lobster Bisque, which was swimming with chunks of sweet lobster meat, marred slightly by a few blobs of unincorporated roux. The Penne ala Vodka was outstanding and thoroughly enjoyed by the birthday boy. My Chicken Piccata with capers and shitake mushrooms in a white wine lemon sauce over handmade capellini was enough for a family of four! Desserts were a fine finish for one of the best Italian meals we have enjoyed...Italian Cheesecake and a fantastic Cannoli!

We were really looking forward to dining here
Issue #1 was the waitress 'selling us' on the need to drink bottled water as we got some song and dance about a water problem. While we brought a nice bottle of wine for our dinner, we start off getting banged $6 with no visible water main or construction issues nearby. Big negative.
The meal and the service were fine with some minor issues. My wife ordered the spinach/beet salad which was vg. I opted for two specials: the Seafood Chowder which was very well made, clean, light, perhaps a bit too buttery, but nevertheless, a well executed soup. Also ordered the appy special which was a beautiful assembly of grilled eggplant (in season and sweet) with proscuitto, wonderful feta, and roasted red peppers.
My wife ordered the risotto scampi as an entree and while plentiful, with nice sized shrimp had no vegetable sides. Her error. I ordered the flounder with lump crab meat which was delicious. Nicely done in a lemon caper sauce. Problem was it was sistered with a humongous baked potato 'quartered' with an equally bland and overcooked brocolli and carrot side. Colorless dish, and who needs all that potato??????? .
We had coffees, and split the pistachio cheesecake which was very good.

Unfortunately we were booked at the same time as a very large party and apparently our orders suffered as a result. Server, who was also handling the large party, was less than attentive and the food, when it finally arrived (well over an hour after we ordered) looked and tasted like it had been sitting on a warmer in the kitchen. Pasta dishes were ok at best, chicken dish was overcooked, With the prices they charge, they could do a lot better. We visit Cape May occasionally but would not bother returning here.

We were really disappointed in our experience at Sapore. The restaurant has clearly prioritized filling every possible space over the customer experience. I went here with my mother and fiancé tonight. We only ordered one entree each and it took two hours to come out, while we waited in a crowded room with 30 other tables and maybe 2 wait staff for the entire room. The wait staff was clearly completely overwhelmed, the food wasn’t ready on time (and tbh was mediocre when it arrived), and we couldn’t leave at any reasonable point because we couldn’t get the check. Shame on whoever is managing this business.

Always skeptical about Italian food down the shore but read good reviews and even heard folks praise the food at Sapore . Sapore is okay and that's being kind . The antipasto that comes courtesy of the Chef is supposed to be drizzled in balsamic but the balsamic had a funky taste . We got the eggplant rollatini for an appetizer and although slightly strong on garlic , that was the best dish we had . The Cesar salad was definitely prepared much earlier as it was warm and the greens were wilted . My wife had the veal saltimbuco and I had the veal parmigiana , and both dishes were no better than we would get in a local pizzeria that's best at serving slices . The one good point was the meal was reasonably priced and our waiter was polite , the hosting trio though not so much . We would not return .

Once again had a wonderful meal! We have now eaten here multiple times and on every occasion they have been consistently excellent in every aspect. Great food and service as always attentive but never feeling rushed. The portions, presentation and preparation have been spot on. Since it is a BYOB establishment, this helps greatly in keeping the cost more reasonable. We always go on the early side to avoid any disappointment with our selection having sold out. Definitely a must do for us every time we are in Cape May. On weekends reservations are almost a necessity. Enjoy!!!

I got a fish special which really lacked flavor. 2 people with me said their food was very salty. And another person also said their food lacked flavor. A 5th person in my party got sick.
Also, this restaurant told me that their peanut frying oil also had some sort of tree nut oil (I've never seen before) but they couldn't tell me what nut...?.. Even though I explained to them I'm ok with peanuts and anything that says 'made in a factory with tree nuts'. They didn't seem to understand what I was saying and was just telling me that to cover their butts, so I guess in case I didn't have a reaction and sue them. Not good service, they should really know their ingredients are... but if the oil really does have tree nuts, they should get a new oil brand...So I couldn't enjoy any fired appetizers (I've always been able to eat calamari in any restaurant.)
Bread was terrible, especially for an Italian restaurant. Waiter forgot our Ice bucket we requested. Didn't check on us. When he brought out food and I told him that the one dish was mine, and he proceeded to tell me that it was not the dish I had ordered and hesitated to give it me. Honestly the chain carrabba's has wayyyyy better food than this restaurant.

Great place to celebrate my dad’s birthday! Everything—the complimentary antipasti, appetizers, special entrees (bronzino, seafood pasta), desserts (pyramid, pistachio cheesecake)—was amazing. Service was exceptional as well. We also appreciated all their efforts to provide a safe but enjoyable environment during the pandemic.

First time here and I wasn’t impressed. I had started with a Caesar salad, which was good but average. I had ordered one of their specials, which was lobster ravioli with crab, scallops and spinach in a pink sauce. I’m never found out where the lobster was. The crab tasted fishy, so not fresh. The ravioli was filled with mush. The scallops were good and the freshest thing on the plate. Another person at the table got the same special and only ate the scallops from the dish. Two other people got chicken Parmesan and said it was good. For desert I had ordered an orange sorbet, which was so hard I had to let it sit for quite a while before I could chip away at it. The service wasn’t great either, but it wasn’t because of the individual server, but fit to the fact that they were severely understaffed. I’m not sure it was worth it. Maybe I’ll try this place in another year when they get their act together.

My husband made a reservation here based on the reviews, so we had high expectations but left feeling underwhelmed. We are somewhat spoiled being used to restaurants in Boston's North End, but even without that frame of reference, this place falls squarely in the average category. The food was nothing special. Not bad, not great—just OK.
We ordered the eggplant rollantini as an appetizer, and it was rather tasteless. I ordered the gnocchi and asked to add mushrooms, as it was a very plain dish without them. The sauce was quite heavy, which was not exactly unexpected because it was a cream sauce, but it didn't have much in the way of flavor/seasoning. It would have been great if they added herbs or some other sort of greens or veggies, but they didn't, and those weren't options. On the whole, the food is sort of fast-casual but served on a white table cloth.
If you do eat here, I recommend requesting a table outside for the best ambiance because the interior is very dated. We were seated at a table on the second floor in a room with bright yellow walls and bright overhead lighting, neither of which were conducive to having a relaxed meal. The setting is not intimate or cozy; it felt more like a busy hotel banquet hall than a nice restaurant.

Went the second day of outdoor dining. We had a table on the patio. It was very windy. They had a covered tent on the side of the building. Do not know why all the dinners were seated there. Food was very good but there was way too much food on my plate of chicken saltimbocca. Husband loved his pasta Bologna’s. Antipasto plate was a plus. Bread was very good. Waiter was efficient and pleasant. It was just too windy to get dessert. Would return when there is indoor dining available.

I recently spent 7 nights in cape may and dined in this restaurant 4 of those nights. This restaurant was great even during Covid restrictions, I had reservations every night and my table was always ready. The hostess was professional and friendly and all the waiters were eager to help and provided great service. The restaurant was byob and the food was delicious and priced appropriately. Would definitely return.

We dined at Sapore Italiano while in Cape May, NJ this week. The food was superior in taste and presentation. The waiter could not be more professional and attentive and the complimentary appetizer was delicious and appreciated. Will definitely dine here again while in Cape May. Compliments to the chef.

We found this restaurant a few years ago and love it, our favorite Italian place in the US. We had reservations, not sure if you can get in without them, especially during the pandemic. Waitress was pleasant and helpful with suggestions. All of the food was wonderful, creative combinations of ingredients that really made your palate enjoy what it was experiencing. The prices are very reasonable, actually less than what I pay at home in rural PA. Love it, highly recommend it, can't say enough about it.
