Dock Mike’s has been a tradition of ours during our visits to Cape May for over a decade. This will be our last visit, the nickel and diming is out of control. Have to pay extra for hash browns with a $15 omelet, said I could get an English muffin instead of toast and was charged $4, pay $2 for a bottle of water (left over from Covid and horribly environmentally unfriendly). My daughter’s chocolate milk was so small she ordered a second so we paid $9 total. Paying $100 for an average diner breakfast for three is just ridiculous. I know Cape May is expensive but this is not justifiable.

This is a cash only restaurant. The Hostess did tell us that when we sat down, and it is on the menu, but it should be posted at an entrance. Once you sit down, you don't really want to say that you don't want to spend your cash on food and leave. The food ranged from very good to average to horrible. My husband ordered the Grilled Cheese and Bacon Sandwich with Fries. Everything came to the table very hot and freshly made. It had a huge amount of bacon on it and he declared it delicious. The Fries were good and hot too. I ordered the Chicken Tenders with Fries and Coleslaw. There were 4 huge pieces of breaded and fried chicken pieces. They were hot, but overdone on the edges. Way more than I could eat. My Fries were also hot and very good, the best part of my meal. The Coleslaw was terrible. It had a strange taste. Maybe the vinegar was old. I had asked for honey mustard sauce for the tenders. That was awful too. It was Heinz brand, so I'm surprised it wasn't better. It was almost green in color and had no honey or sweet taste at all. Didn't go with the chicken tenders. Sodas were $3.50 each. Definitely on the high side. But they used canned soda, not from the fountain and gave a second one to my husband for free, so that made it a better deal. The restaurant was neat and clean and nicely decorated. Staff was all very pleasant and our Server, Patrick, was very nice and helpful. But because it is a cash place only and my food wasn't all that good, I'd never go back to eat there, even if I was in the area. But we didn't want to go all the way in to Cape May and try and find a parking place. I imagine that's what keeps this restaurant afloat.

This restaurant is worth the trip. While parking is limited, there is plenty of seating for large families or groups of people. The service was excellent and food taste and freshness was outstanding. We ordered the apple 🍎 🍐 French toast with a side of crispy bacon. Wow, what an experience. The freshness of the apple and pears were perfect. This was a wonderful breakfast.

Our family has been loyal patrons Dock Mikes for about 6 years. This used to be our absolute favorite place for breakfast. The last two years our experiences have been awful. As many others have stated, they will not serve tap water to anyone at the table only $2 bottled water. For a family of 5 we are already at $10 without any food, juice or coffee! They only except cash which is alright if the ATM is working, the past few visits it has not been. This is 2023 - Everyone takes credit cards now! The eggs Benedict used to be awesome now it's nothing but burnt english muffins with dried up Canadian bacon "hardboiled" eggs and a tablespoon of dried up hollandaise. It is inedible! If you are going to charge exorbitant prices , it better be great! We also waited an hour for a table for a mostly empty restaurant. All I see are kids running the show and they don't know what they are doing. We were already miserable with our food but to end our visit we were provided lids for our drinks so we could take them with us but not of their lids fit any of their cups. We couldn't even take our pricy soft drinks and coffee with us! Total breakfast bill "$135" (without tip) for a family of 5! If it was a decent meal okay but you cannot serve what you served us and expect us to be happy about it and come back.

We have a shore house fifteen minutes from here and we were looking for a place close by for breakfast on a Saturday morning. I checked out the menu and was so excited they had grits with cheddar cheese on the menu, that I was in. I didn’t even bother reading the reviews, we just went. Shame on me. Had I read reviews first, I may not have gone. I may have thought people were nit picky about high prices and cash only, but after going I regretted it and feel really dumb for going there. They had a nice covered outdoor seating area that allows pets but we opted to sit inside. Breakfast cost slightly over $50 for two people. How is that possible? The prices are very high, and omelettes come with toast only, so if you want hash browns they are at a $4 minimum extra. They had a sign that said bottled water was available, but I assume that meant no tap water was served. I don’t fully understand why. My husband ordered a Diet Coke and he was given a 12oz can and a plastic cup of ice ($3). I had an unsweetened iced tea which came in a plastic cup, so I’m not entirely sure about the sign about bottled water. We both had omelettes, I asked for a cheddar cheese omelette even though the menu said it would be $1 extra for any cheese other than American and my husband had a western omelette ($14) We both had cheddar grits and my husband had them with bacon in them also ($8), without bacon ($4). When we realized the omelettes didn’t come with home fries we ordered a side of them with onion ($5). My omelette came with American cheese which I don’t like, but figured I would eat it anyway and just make sure I wasn’t charged for cheddar when the receipt came. My husband said his omelette was ok, but a little watery. The home fries were hard and not great. The grits were “ok”. They were orange in color, so they could have been cheddar grits… but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Cheez Wiz since I saw the menu mentioned Cheez Wiz in the section for the potatoes. I’m not saying it was Wiz, but I wouldn’t be surprised because it didn’t really taste like cheddar. When the check came I noticed immediately that I had been charged for cheddar cheese in my omelette so I mentioned it to the waitress. She said “are you sure?” Are you kidding me? The bill is at $52 and I’m trying to beat them for $1??? I told yes that I was positive and that I hate American cheese. The funny thing is I actually had thought about leaving some of the American cheese on my plate just in case I was asked “if I was sure”. My husband ended up eating my leftovers on my plate. It was insulting. They are ripping us off, but I’m being shamed for pointing out I was overcharged by $1. I would never ever go here again. There are plenty of other places in the area that have good breakfast that isn’t a gouge. If you decide to go anyway don’t forget to bring lots of cash or your debit card to hit the ATM machine they have near the register. I wonder if there’s a fee to use the ATM…..

My family has a summer home in Cape May and I have not been to this restaurant since they changed locations years ago . I decided to give it a try and was very disappointed. The food is so expensive, everything is al a cart , 75 dollars for breakfast for 3, they only take cash and the food is mediocre . Also , they only offer bottled water for 2 dollars , no free glass of water! The one redeeming thing was the coffee.

Cash only restaurant. A Pancake house that doesn't let you get one pancake on the side. Ordered a combo of 2 eggs, sausage and pancakes $18! Then for an upcharge (expected $2 ) I ordered their pumpkin pancakes (which were good). They charged me $6 more for the upcharge. I paid $24 for my basic breakfast combo. They're crazy if they think it was worth that. I've had way better elsewhere in Cape May for less. Won't be going back. On the plus side though our waitress was a doll.

The food was mediocre. It’s cash only, that doesn’t bother me. However this place uses the sorry excuse of the pandemic to take their customers for all the money they can get. This is the only restaurant in Cape May that does not provide complimentary tap water. You can purchase a bottle of water for $2. (Orange juice is $6 btw) I’m sick of restaurants taking advantage of the Covid excuse when it’s convenient. If they were truly concerned about cleanliness & sanitation, require masks of your waitstaff and charge for some plastic forks while you’re at it. Also, space out the seating! There are so many great breakfast places to enjoy in Cape May, that actually respect their customers! My favorite is the Mad Batter.

It was our second time here - the service and food were both great, and it got us started for a busy day. The server brought hot chocolates for the kids in big cups, as well as a big dollop of whipped cream. They were thrilled! Tasty fresh fruit, egg dishes, and pancakes.

My wife and I visit Cape May every year .. We try to visit Doc Mike's at least once. We know it is pricey compared to other breakfast establishments such as McGlades , Belle Vida, Ocean View . Opened the menu today and saw they now charge $2/bottle for water. Complained to the waiter and left without ordering . Cash only, higher prices than other restaurants mentioned , and just learned no refills on coffee. Go to one of the other restaurants I mentioned above they accept credit cards, provide free ice water with lemon, and free refills of coffee. Bye Bye Doc Mike's.

My family has dined at Dock Mike’s on our annual trip to the shore for decades. During Covid, the restaurant began the practice of all disposable drinks (including water bottles for which they charge $2) and no refills on coffee. I was surprised and disappointed that this practice continues in 2021 and was told it would continue indefinitely. It is irresponsible to the planet to dispose of multiple plastic water bottles and plastic cups from countless tables of guests every day open for business! Additionally, the coffee tasted like the disposable cup in which it was provided. Despite the good food, my family has said farewell to Dock Mike’s in favor of bottomless cups of coffee poured in ceramic mugs and drinking water included with the cost of the meal.

We’ve come to this restaurant every year for our family vacation and each year has gotten worse. For 4 of us we paid $150 for breakfast. They no longer give you free refills on coffee, which by the way did taste good. They charge you for water, which by the way is now bottled so again no free refills on WATER! Place is going down hill…very sad.

No prices listed on take out menu. When you pick up food, you find the items are overpriced. You also find out that they don’t take credit cards. But they have an ATM machine on premises. You lose two ways: items are overpriced and you pay an ATM fee. Owner wins two ways: on overpriced items and on fee he collects for you using ATM machine. Nasty welcome to your vacation in Cape May. Avoid this place.

After waiting an hour and a half for one pancake (my daughter), fried egg sandwich (myself), they didn't bring out my husband's dish, he continued to wait for his chicken and waffles. 10 mins later it came out. One small waffle and three chicken tenders looking as if they were from a freezer just like any other, nothing fancy. Neither of them received butter, just syrup, nor were never offered any. The lemonade were not free refills at $3 a pop. When I ordered my water, I asked for lemon and I understand we are in a pandemic, however I heard another table get asked if they wanted a cup with ice and lemon for their water bottle!? We also do not mind ever spending on a good meal, but to charge $15 for that chicken and waffles, when the waffle was a glorified eggo and 3 pieces of chkn that my 8 yr old would eat for lunch off the kids menu of Wendy's, NO THANK YOU! Let's just say we do NOT like to say bad things about restaurants as my husband and I both were in the service industry, however this was one restaurant we will NEVER be back at and would like others to know that it is not a good choice with all the stops down at Cape May. Take your hungry belly somewhere else!
