Mary Barry's Seafood Bar & Restaurant comes highly recommended for its fresh and varied seafood options, though guests have noted that prices can be steep and portion sizes occasionally inconsistent. A warm and welcoming ambiance is frequently mentioned, adding to the dining experience with its homely, old-fashioned charm. While service is generally applauded for being friendly and attentive, some patrons suggest booking in advance to avoid long wait times, and a few have encountered slower service even with reservations.

While Kilmore Quay has the reputation, the nearby village of Kilmore now has a fantastic restaurant, I would say second to none. Spending five days nearby at Ballyhealy Beach, we ate in Mary Barry’s each evening and were delighted with the quality of food on offer. For obvious reasons the specialities were seafood . The freshness, quality of cooking, presentation and service were superb. There were crab claws to die for, chowder, prawn dishes, calamari, scampi, hake, cod, haddock etc. There also were daily specials depending on varieties available. For meat enthusiasts, the duck, beef, pork, chicken and lamb featured on the very extensive menu. I noted too that vegetarians were also well catered for, veg vol-au-vent, oriental stir-fries, Thai curry, vegetarian black bean stir fry etc. Due to the Pandemic, extensive refurbishment was undergone with a vast outside deck which is partially covered, floored with artificial grass among trees with beautiful lighting at night. Service was absolutely superb from all the pleasant and knowledgable staff. There are also inside tables when the weather required! This village, a few Kms. from Kilmore Quay, has been transformed over the years and now has this wonderful restaurant which, judging by the number of customers, has become a food destination in itself. We cannot rate it highly enough!

We went to this restaurant much later than intended as the day got away on us. It was our daughter’s birthday and the staff was supreme in decorating a beautiful piece of chocolate cake for her and they also came and sang to her at the table. She was over the moon as she’s still quite young so she loved the attention. My main point was that The food is amazing by all accounts! I had the Chilli and coriander prawn and crab linguine. It was divine! The portion was huge and they gave huge portions of both crab and prawns. They were expertly cooked as the prawn was like biting into an orange segment and the crab was just melt in your mouth! Fresh crab is a delicacy for me, being from inland Canada, and I loved every bit of this dish. Lime was a nice exchange for lemon, which is commonly used with seafood. The chef was kind enough to put the chilli and coriander on the side, for me to add myself. I’m glad he did as the coriander went really well with the dish. But the chilli would’ve been too spicy for me. The service was top notch. As soon as our main dishes arrived, our daughter had to go to the washroom, of course! I came back out with her to find my meal was gone. Our waitress had in fact noticed my need to leave and took my food back to keep it warm in the kitchen until I returned. I have never in all my years received this kind of service in a restaurant. This was one of the most expensive dishes on the menu and so I was so appreciative that they maintained the warmth so I didn’t have to eat such a special dish cold. As soon as I sat down, she was watching and returned my meal for me to tuck in. My husband had the monkfish curry and it was extremely well balanced and flavourFULL! I wanted to go back the next day to keep trying their dishes out. My only constructive criticism, which may not be interpreted as constructive. ;) I had the chicken ceaser salad to start. There was too much dressing and too much going on for the flavour profile. The chef has added sundried tomatoes to add a unique zing and roasted pine nuts to a well known salad. These elements are expensive and I found were not necessary. The sun dried tomatoes are nice but needed to be sliced into much smaller bits as they have a strong flavour and a large one to chew on is too powerful for this salad. There was too much chicken and not enough lettuce as well. Switch out the sun dried tomatoes for a slice of lemon to add the extra acid (as we do in most Canadian restaurants) and leave out the pine nuts. Their flavour was lost and confusing. Bacon was great though! A Canadian will always say to keep the bacon in a ceaser salad. Thank you fir making our daughter’s birthday in Ireland so special and for such an amazing local seafood experience as well!!!

There were three of us and I was getting my car serviced in the local Menapia Renault garage and we had a courtesy car so we went for a drive towards Kilmore Quay and came across a restaurant called Mary Barry's. A quaint spot and well decorated and a lovely fire so nice and warm with a cozy atmosphere. Very friendly and chirpy waitresses and very polite. I ordered the Plaice and my wife and friend had the lemon Sole with fries and side salad. It was the best fish I had in ages and my companions thought the same. Cooked to perfection and full of flavor. I cannot wait to call back soon. If you are in the area I would recommend you stop here but make sure you are hungry as the portions are to satisfy a healthy appetite.

Myself, mother and son visited today after a recommendation from my aunt. The tables have no partition and are not 2 metres apart, staff have no face masks or visors. 3 of the 4 glasses brought to the table had lip stick on them, knifes and forks had to be cleaned with hand wipes (looked wiped clean). We waited the nearly an hour for a burger and chips, cold seafood platter and a haddock roulade (a giant bread crumbed filled fish cake). Our drinks order was forgotten, chips and veg all had to be asked for. I’m a diabetic and after 40 mins I had to ask about food I was told the roulade takes 30 minutes to make (I wasn’t told this and as a special cant understand why it would take so long).....the seafood platter was quantity over quality soggy crab claws, cheap Aldi prawns, grated cheese just a mess....after travelling the west of Ireland with delicious platters this was a let down and not worth €30! Staff hygiene is lacking, staff coughing and one staff member licking every finger on her hand and then proceeding to use the ordering computer! Shocking! It was the first place I have felt so unsafe with regards covid!

Long time customers of Mary Barrys but very disappointed recently. Our party of 4 people waited 40 minutes before receiving meal, which meant only an hour to enjoy our meal. But we cerently didn't. Standards have dropped but prices haven't. Quantity was very much reduced since last visit. Chips were under cooked and steak on the surf and turf was non existent. Not good value for hard earned money.

We have driven by this restaurant many times during visits to Kilmore Quay without stopping. Judging by the ambiance and food quality encountered recently, this was a mistake. Although the evening was cold and wet, the warmth of the welcome and the lengthy menu soon dispelled any effects of inclement weather. I had hake and my colleague Thai shellfish. Both were excellent and were accompanied by a steaming trio of vegetables. Don’t know who Mary Barry is but her establishment is one of the best encountered by this writer in County Wexford. Going back!

We visited this restaurant with friends while on a staycation in the Wexford area. From the minute you walk in, you know this restaurant is going to be great. Social distancing is adhered to strictly. The restaurant is well kept, has a pretty exterior, large car park and is spotlessly clean. There is a beautiful outside dining area. A great choice of quality but affordable wines. The food menu is extensive and the choices are excellent. The food is gorgeous, well presented and cooked to perfection. We really couldn't fault this restaurant, the staff are efficient, friendly and helpful. The only negative us that we tried to book for a second night, but the place was booked out. There is a shuttle bus that for a small amount will take you back to your house or hotel. Mary Barry's is exactly why Ireland gets a great reputation for good food, ambience and professional and top class dining experiences. Delighted to have experienced this fantastic establishment. Well worth the visit. Thank you to the staff here for a wonderful night. We will certainly be back again when we visit Wexford.

I have eaten at Mary Barry's many times but today's visit was just OK, certainly not memorable. My three courses were ok, with the cheesecake being the best. My wife's roast consisted of tough, grisly beef, mashed potatoes, swede and carrots - no cauliflower or broccoli both of which were quoted by the server. My daughter's apple pie was disgusting - soggy pastry that appeared to have been microwaved. The worse aspect of the visit though was the apathy of the server who despite being made aware of our dissatisfaction just ignored it. Time to invest some time and effort in staff training and to ensure high food standards are maintained.

Very disappointed with fish menu; everything breaded or masked in flour. Requested pan fried fish without flour or breadcrumbs and received pan fried fish coated in flour. Chef apparently advised wait staff that fish cannons be cooked without flour or breadcrumbs! Only ate a small amount as the fish was ruined. Complained to wait staff. No discount or apology. Such a pity as it is a lovely setting but very poor menu choices

I have been to Mary Barry’s on several occasions as we are local never again. My husband rang early on Friday for reservations on Saturday or Sunday was told it was booked out but if we came along for a drink and waited awhile we would get a table in the captain’s bar. We went out on Sunday 1.30 and was put into a heated Gazebo which was smelly and inside roof was dirty and although heated we still had drafts coming in the sides. The meal was poor, my roast beef was okay but potatoes and veg were cold, my husband’s turkey and ham were dried out and ham had a funny taste. To sit in this terrible gazebo you still pay the same price and you are sitting looking at a beautiful restaurant which you thought you were going into. The most annoying thing about this experience when restaurants were closed and it was only takeaway we would get a takeaway every week to support this local business but that won’t happen again. It’s a pity they have forgotten about the locals who supported them in lockdown.

Visited here on our 1st night of our stay cation. It was so fantastic we cancelled our last nights booking elsewhere to come back here even though we had planned to do a different restaurant every night. The waitresses, Julie the 1st night and Theresa on our last night, were so attentive with our young children aged 7 and 4 and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was amazing, highly recommend the pan fried lemon sole which I had twice and the crab claws as well as the monkfish goujons and pan fried fresh cod! Highly recommend and we will be back!

I visited last week on a recommendation, but was very disappointed. Although they have a one way system in place none of the staff wore face masks or visors, this made me feel unsafe. The glasses were grubby with a lot of water marks (no need for this to be happening). The seafood platter was a big let down, I was so disappointed, prawns appeared to be the tiny tasteless frozen variety not the big juicy ones I expected being so close to Kilmore Quay and the other fish was pretty mediocre, it also included a huge amount of grated cheese, cole slaw and hard boiled eggs!! A very disappointing experience, I really wanted it to be so much more.

The main course I ordered was a half portion of a fish in red Thai curry, which is not on the menu but they made it up for me as a lady beside us said her chicken red curry was fab but I thought I’m not going to a sea food restaurant and gonna order chicken so they obliged very willingly and if that was the half portion I dunno what I’d have done with a full as I left over half, the two scallop starters were fab and the chowder was good, only problem was there was a lot in a portion it made my mam too full to enjoy the main course of which she had the plaice, she got 3 pieces with pot&veg but she wasn’t able to touch the pot and veg at all she was sooo full, my sister had the fish yellow curry which she loved, her partner had the lemon sole, again 3 pieces, huge portions!! Daughter and friend had chick goujons and beef straganoff, goujons were huge but beef while it was really nice lacked the pickles or the vinegar flavour that straganoff usually holds, but like I said really fab. We weren’t able for dessert but said we couldn’t leave without a treat so we ordered the mary Barry’s cheesecake which was rolo between 4 of us and we just couldn’t finish it but it was very tasty and the girls had a choc fudge cake between them two and they did finish it, in fact I never even got to see it they hoovered it 😂😂. If ur after a good big feed you need to try this place.

My husband brought me here for my birthday as we are both lovers of seafood. I had scallops with black pudding and apple sauce to start. The scallops were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Unfortunately the apple sauce came out of a jar which is unacceptable in any restaurant in my opinion. Ronan enjoyed his prawn starter but said it lacked a kick and he was disappointed that the bread roll was clearly one of those ones you buy half baked at the supermarket. My main course of prawn and crab pasta was absolutely divine. It had the perfect ratio of chilli and lime. Ronan enjoyed his monkfish goujons but said they were soggy towards the bottom of the dish they came in. Perhaps they should be served in a wire basket to let the steam escape? I finished my meal with a perfect Baileys coffee and then was very kindly brought a slice of chocolate fudge cake on the house as it was my birthday. Ronan enjoyed his old school Knickerbocker Glory which came complete with tinned fruit cocktail. We enjoyed our experience at Mary Barry's. The ambience was lovely. Its a beautiful cosy place and the staff were pleasant and diligent. But I really feel for the prices charged that they should not be serving apple sauce from a jar or fruit from a tin.
