We couldn't wait to visit House of Plates after it was recommended to us by a friend and we weren't disappointed. From beginning to end everything made for a hugely enjoyable experience. The welcome was warm and friendly, the ambience relaxed, with furniture and decor...all created from salvage items, in keeping with the sustainability theme. Then came the food, all of it delicious and obviously prepared by people with a passion for what they do. I would single out the great vegetarian options, in particular the Hispi main course. This really was cabbage as I never tasted it before! But all tastes were well catered for. When the bill came we were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't for more, given the high standards. Wholeheartedly recommended.More

I don’t usually write reviews but our experience last night in Castlebar really warrants it. I was there for just one night visiting two local friends and had one of those rare wonderful culinary experiences that I will remember for a long time. From the...minute we entered and I saw the wall full of awards, I thought we were probably in for a treat. The wine list was not extensive but clearly carefully chosen and well priced and I was delighted to see Gruner Veltiner on the menu. We skipped starters but were still treated to the chef’s ‘taster’ delivered under a glass dome of steam, the kind of theatrics usually reserved for high end city restaurants. The Parmesan, creamy mouthfuls in a delicate basket were only fabulous and that set the tone for fabulous food for the entire evening. Both the taster & home made breads served warm with butter and a sprinkle of Achill salt were complementary. The beef featherblade and baked Alaska was wonderful. The service was really good too, waiter was wonderful, attentive, warm & knowledgeable. It’s high end food but not with the prices I’m used to paying in Dublin. And yet a lovely relaxed environment with a clear nod to the environment - the whole interior is recycled. Well done to everyone involved in this lovely spot. A 10 out of 10 all around from me. I will be back in Castlebar in August & I can’t wait to return.More

I booked my daughters confirmation meal here. I have dined many times before and all were fab, but since it changed from ‘tapas style’ it’s a whole new experience. Owen and his team are always so professional and show genuine care and welcome to every...single customer, kids included. A special mention to Marty, absolute gentleman, very patient with our table who had multiple dietary requirements- Marty and the chefs went above and beyond and made sure each guest had a substitute of everything- amazing service to receive with them not having notice of any kind prior to our sitting. Marty explained every dish and every appetiser with such knowledge and you could tell by his manner he showed genuine interest in his work. From my understanding the owner grows a lot of produce in his home garden …. This alone stands to the taste of every dish. It’s like an other world dining experience but also inexpensive, attention to detail, little surprises throughout the meal which I don’t want to say too much about as it’s all part of the visit ! I have had many dinings in many places - this by far was one of the nicest with a twist of fun but very, very classy throughout…. On observing other diners that evening - they also were blown alway. Highly recommend , keep up the Fantastic work and thank you for making our daughters confirmation meal amazing ! (Side note: Their take away is also amazing !! )More

‘We should do this more often’ is what we say every time we visit House of Plates. I should review it more often also because their offering is consistently good and innovative. We’re very lucky to have a restaurant of this calibre in the town....I highly recommend a visit here … as often as you can. No two meals are the same and it never disappoints. 5* every time.More

Would highly recommend for foodies. It is an experience, food slightly highly priced but worth it. I would not go here every week but rather for an occasion.. Staff are great, food is great, service is good.

Loved the feather blade steak with a delicious garnish. So tender and tasty. Scallops could have been hotter. Prices are...not cheap. PriceyMore

I'm vegan and my partner isn't. We found excellent food for both of us. There was one vegan option on the main course and they were willing to adapt another vegetarian one. My partner had a beef dish which was cooked to perfection. Excellent service...from start to finish. Lovely surprise touches like a surprise pre started.and a homemade tiny icelolly at the end.More

What an amazing restaurant. The staff and atmosphere were brilliant. As a vegetarian it was one of the best meals that I have eaten in years. There were several choices and the attention to detail was fabulous. Couldn't recommend it any higher.

Have been here a few times over last month. Slight change in concept but the quality and service is still excellent. As always difficult to state how good food tastes but definetly one of best meals we have in Ireland in last year. Food and...service superb. Service was excellent, each dish explained and questions answered and all in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Well done to chef Barry Ralph and all his staff.More
