recently visited Cafe Sol for lunch and as usual it was spot on. Chicken pitta is not to be passed! So much so that I dont even look at the menu anymore when I do go there. My partner had the vegetarian wrap and wiped the plate. Creme brulee for desserts was amazing, served by Irene who is always so... More

We've gone to Cafe Sol in Kilkenny several times in the past 20 years when we have visited Kilkenny on vacation. I haven't been there in a while so the decor was quite different (I actually quite miss the former decor--and menu design-- which were both more whimsical) but service was still good as was the food. I was a... More

Leek and potato soup was very tasty and the brown bread was very fresh. Monkfish main was cooked to perfection. Fish cakes were average, they were served with boiled potatoes which is excessive given they are already majority potato, more fish would have been better. Creme brûlée was pretty awful, texture wasn't good and hazelnuts have no place in this... More

Left this place really disappointed after spending 1hr40mins just to have a starter. Place wasn't even that busy except for a large table of people but that's no excuse in my opinion. I went up to say I was leaving to be told 3 more minutes, 10 minutes later we just left. Won't be back again

Myself and my family decided to go here for our Christmas Eve meal. This is a restaurant we have visited for years and have always found it flawless. However, there seems to be new management here recently and the service staff are absolutely horrendous if I'm honest. Don't get me wrong, the food is AMAZING and as long as the... More

Hi Sarah, Thank you for your review and I'm glad you enjoy the food at Café Sol Kilkenny. Christmas Eve is a particularly busy day and on this occasion our service did not meet your expectations so my apologies for that. I will factor your review into our service training. We had planned to go to another restaurant in Kilkenny for dinner for a group of five of us and on the way met locals who recommended here. Couldn't have been happier with our decision to change restaurants. As we were a drop in they went out of their way to accommodate us on a Saturday evening before Christmas. We... More

Dinner on a cold November Wednesday evening was a pleasant experience and 3-courses for €28 was excellent value. The solitary waiter did a good job and there were no major delays between courses. We'd particularly recommend the pear & blue cheese salad (starter) & the slow-cooked pork belly (main - with €4 supplement)). Also my Upside down Pear & Almond... More

Whenever we find ourselves in Kilkenny - a few times a year, we make a point of dining in Cafe Sol. The staff are friendly, helpful and eager to please. The food is consistently good with a wide ranging Menu. The location is convenient to the High Street, yet peaceful and conducive to a very pleasant experience. Thank you, once... More

Excellent food with good variety and a charming atmosphere, however, there was just a single waiter working the entire restaurant. The waiter was absolutely lovely but just couldn't provide the table service we would have preferred. I'm not sure why the owner doesn't hire an additional server????

Dear MBandME Thank you for the kind words in your review. Apologies that the table service could have been better. Our objective therefore is to be busy every night so that we can have more good people employed in our small restaurant. We're still working hard on that one! Thanks again for your visit. Kind regards, Noel McCarron. More

Was here recently with two friends and a toddler. Staff were very accommodating. I had been here a few years ago for dinner and had found the choice not to my liking. However the other day for lunch, what can I say, the good was amazing. Would def go there again
