Dinner on a cold November Wednesday evening was a pleasant experience and 3-courses for €28 was excellent value. The solitary waiter did a good job and there were no major delays between courses. We'd particularly recommend the pear & blue cheese salad (starter) & the slow-cooked pork belly (main - with €4 supplement)). Also my Upside down Pear & Almond... More

Whenever we find ourselves in Kilkenny - a few times a year, we make a point of dining in Cafe Sol. The staff are friendly, helpful and eager to please. The food is consistently good with a wide ranging Menu. The location is convenient to the High Street, yet peaceful and conducive to a very pleasant experience. Thank you, once... More

Excellent food with good variety and a charming atmosphere, however, there was just a single waiter working the entire restaurant. The waiter was absolutely lovely but just couldn't provide the table service we would have preferred. I'm not sure why the owner doesn't hire an additional server????

Dear MBandME Thank you for the kind words in your review. Apologies that the table service could have been better. I guess you dined midweek when we have 1 waiter on duty at this lean time of the year. The main difficulty from a staff rostering viewpoint is that most midweek customers these days don't reserve a table - they... More

Was here recently with two friends and a toddler. Staff were very accommodating. I had been here a few years ago for dinner and had found the choice not to my liking. However the other day for lunch, what can I say, the good was amazing. Would def go there again

Beautiful Bistro. Beautiful food and lovely ambience. Moderately priced. My husban and sister both had the pork belly and are still raving about it. I had the fish dish of the day and it was amazing. Service a little slow, but there was only one waiter there. He was very good but could have done with some help. Still a... More

My partner and I visited this restaurant last week and were lucky to enjoy a musical performance as part of our meal. The music was fantastic and the food was good. I had a salad for starter which was advertised as containing prosciutto - I was a little disappointed that there were only 2 small pieces of meat amongst my... More

Located on a quiet street off the main street, Cafe Sol was a very pleasant surprise. It offers a quiet contrast to the traditional Irish Pubs found all over Kilkenny. What we needed on our fourth day of being tourists was a candle-lit vibe with fresh, upscale food offered as a 2 or 3-course option. Thanks, Cafe Sol! Over the... More

Nice candle lit restaurant, excellent food, nice atmosphere. The shine was taken off significantly by the waiter who insisted on walking around the restaurant clearing his sinuses which was revolting. For this reason won't be back.

A lovely little restaurant on a quiet street in the centre of Kilkenny. We were recommended this place by someone who used to live in Kilkenny and it didn't disappoint. Delicious food using fresh and thoughtful ingredients, in a chilled out informal setting, great service with a smile. Will return for sure.

You *must* go here. Sol is a nice little restaurant, lovely simple light setting, tucked away in an alley just off Kilkenny busiest streets. It has extremely good dishes. The plates are not just very nicely presented, the food is cooked with love and it shows: tastes are excellent. The waiting is very friendly. The wines are decent, if not... More
