One of the stops on the Galway Whiskey Trail. We visited the bar on a Friday afternoon and it was very quiet. The advantage of this was the bartender could spend time explaining about the Whiskies available. It also doubles as an Off Licence so you can buy bottles to take away as well.

Great place to have a drink, not plagued with numerous tvs and loud music but good for a chat and a relaxing drink

Best bar for a 'local' experience in Galway. There are lots of bars in Galway, mayve obver a hundred at the last count, but Freeneys has a unique draw... this is where the Latin Quarter Locals drink... guys with Claddagh 'How's it goin' Martineen' accents and girls with a 'what u lookin' at' attitude... fishing tackle, hooks, baits and a... Spent a few afternoons/ Evenings here . Great place to sit outside and watch the world go by. The location is also good to watch the buskers as well. Bar staff are friendly and look after you and the locals are welcoming. One afternoon when it was a bit damp some of the local musicians set up camp in the... More

We went in just for the whiskey alone but we were quite pleased with the whole place. There wasn't too many people in the bar, so we had plenty of space and they have glass dividers along the bar to give a bit of privacy. The bar keep was very friendly and recommended a few good whiskeys to try out.... More

Great pint of Guinness served and prices are very reasonable for a city bar on a very touristy street. Service was very good, Nice bar atmosphere with both locals and tourists dropping in for a beer. Thankfully while i was there there were no stags or hens ( Parties ) in the bar.

Small, quaint old style pub which is a pub/ off licence/ fishing tackle shop. We went in and there were no stools left, ordered a pint and next thing the bar man came running over with two stools from out of no where. Very friendly bloke and locals too...not everyones cup of tea but definatly worth a stop

A good place for a pint and a great assortment of hard to find and Fine whiskeys. I went in looking for a fairly newly released whiskey, Pogue's Whiskey. Freeney's had it, although I thought it a bit over priced. I'm sure after I Crack it open and have a few drams, the price will be a distant memory.
