We were recommended to this place by a local. This pub and restaurant have been run by the same family for 7 generations. Kieran is a internationally trained chef and his dishes were fantastic. The coddle was my favorite. True Irish food, tapas style servings and the menu changes based on the fresh ingredients he gets in that day. They... More

If you're not from around here you're not going to stumble across the Gravediggers. But if you're looking for a truly authentic Irish Guinness, well this is the house for you! Buried deep in a Glasnevin residential Square John Kavanagh's is a gem. Once inside the door you're transported back to a time where clocks tick tocked and people talked.... More

We visited Kavanagh's after our tour of neighbouring Glasnevin Cemetery. The pub has been owned by the same family for seven generations, and the pub itself displays every indication of having been in business since 1830--authentic and proud of it. There is a restaurant attached on the opposite side. We had our picture taken here by some friendly locals, and... More

We are so delighted you enjoyed your time with us off the Tourist Trail. We are indeed very proud of our humble Public House that is still in the caring hands of The Kavanagh Family sine 1833. (Please note trawicki is not related or affiliated to John Kavanagh's The Gravediggers, sadly TA accused us of 'hashing' reviews, and bumped us... More

Came across this pub by accident when searching online for places to go while visiting Dublin. Was not listed on any of the tourism sites. Liked that even better as prefer to go where the locals are. Was especially interested in the place as it shares the same name as one of my ancestors. Arrived there on a Saturday evening... More

I have stopped at the pub twice over the years during business trips to Dublin since my last name is Kavanagh, and always had a great pint and talking with the staff and patrons. This trip was a vacation and I brought my wife. We went to the restaurant. We went in the week that they did have Tapas for... More

We were served by the seventh generation to own this pub. Great food and the homemade desserts were so good. A lot of history to this place.

Good place for a quiet pint in Dublin. Best pint in the area. Only drawback is no credit card and food only from 6:30 to 8:00.

We visited this historic pub on our final night in Ireland. We were staying not far away as this area is convenient for getting to Dublin Airport. John Kavanagh's is one of the most historic Pubs in Ireland. It was featured in the documentary film "The Irish Pub" available for viewing on Netflix. Perfect atmosphere. An absolute must for that... Great food -Tapas and authentic Dublin stew (Coddle). The Guinness is amazing here, pure cream. Lovely friendly staff from the chef to the barman to the waiting staff. All chatty and willing to stop and talk to the customers. This bar dates from around 1830. It is situated next to Prospect (Glasnevin) cemetery. The bar has no TV or Radio.... More

Great old bar, a little out of the way but a must visit in Dublin if you like a pint. I learned a lot about Guinness during my stay and the best tasting pint outside of St James Gate was Kavanaghs. Go see for yourself.
