Quail was the most delightful starter I've had the pleasure of eating in a long time. The owner, a lovely French lady creates a divine atmosphere in this little but dreamy restaurant in Cork.

I visited around Christmas time for dinner. First impression, the furniture and table distribution suited a cafe more than a restaurant. The menu was not varied much. We ordered the chowder, and what a pleasant surprise! it was loaded with seafood and very yummy. I also had the lemon ravioli, not annoyingly creamy and full of flavors. We also had... More

Myself and my husband visited here for our wedding anniversary meal after Christmas. We picked this restaurant after reading the good reviews. We booked it last minute the night before the date. On arriving our table was not ready although we were 5 minutes late. The waitress gave us the impression that they were not expecting us. She had to... More

Finally visited Star Anise after threatening to go for years. Very small restaurant, tables and chairs felt like cheap cafe furniture, cold draught coming in the door wasn't ideal, my starter and main was nice but nothing special, decent meal but certainly not as good as I expected

Back again to Star Anise last week. As usual it was a last minute decision/opportunity, and our first call was, can we get a table, so we called and left a message and of course Virginie called back and squeezed us in. Place full, as usual, and the service was as usual, friendly, professional, and personal. There were two large... More

I went to Star Anise for an early bird last week. The food was really lovely. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. The goat's cheese starter should not be missed. My husband had the most succulent chicken ever for his mains. The panacotta and coffee creme brûlée were both excellent. Going back again this week!

I love this place, petite, lovely staff and warm atmosphere. Beatiful menu, you won't go home feeling hungry and the creme brulee is to die for! Tried it in various other place, just not the same... Needs to be booked well in advance but well worth the wait. Why are still reading this review... Get booking! And say hi to... More

We visited here nearly 4 years ago and were very pleased with the food and value. as we were staying the area around McCurtain Street we poped in for an early bird menu. It was just as good as before. Considering the value of the early bird the food is exceptional. It may be rustic for some peoples expectations but... More

Nice restaurant, ok location and a little tight seating wise but overall nice. Did the early bird which is good value and ran all evening on the Thursday that I visited. We ate here on the recommendation that it was the best in Cork, as I say it was nice, good value but I wouldn't rank it amongst the best... More

This tiny spot makes a big impression on your palette. The portions are more towards Irish tastes than French, so it might be best to share an entrée. The duck breast was really good and their preparation of vegetables was better than my favorite restaurants in the USA. Two courses for 25 euro is a real deal, too.
