I was looking forward to our dinner here as I had enjoyed my reservation-making email communications with the Owner/Chef Allan “Alfie” Little. In his messages, he was very welcoming and seemed charming and lighthearted, and the reviews I had read also indicated he possessed serious cooking skills. And that combination of friendliness in the front and talent in the kitchen... More

Having booked a weekend away in Inverness and eating at another recommended restaurant the previous night, we were keen to try this highly rated eatery. Luckily a call at 5pm found them able to fit us in for 9pm. We wandered down there about 15 minutes early as we were looking for a bar to have a drink in but... More

My partner booked a table for 2 just a few days before. £80 paid for an utterly delicious 3 course meal (no alcohol): whitebait, lentil and bacon soup (just right portion size for me with great bread), black pudding and raspberry salad (the black pudding was a delight, being so flavoursome and fresh), pan-fried hake special with kale, potatoes, mushroom... We booked a table early enough for the early bird menu as it is good value but in the end we all picked from the full dinner menu. We had two different mussel dishes (one Marinere and the other had a curry flavour added to it). The mussels were very enjoyable but I found the Marinere sauce a little bland.... More

We didn't make a reservation for this restaurant but were lucky enough to get a table. We each chose a different dish and we all enjoyed our choices immensely. Dessert was beautiful and the staff were friendly and efficient. Would highly recommend this delightful restaurant with talented staff.

The River House is beyond a doubt our favorite restaurant in Inverness and perhaps of our entire trip to Scotland. Allan Little can stand up to the best of Europe's neo-bistro chefs! His cuisine is modernist – that is to say he respects the integrity of the ingredients while creating accords and contrasts that bring out the best in each... More

You can easily walk past this building and not realise there is a small intimate restaurant located within The interior seats about 30 so you need to book to get a table. The service was first class along with the food, it was nice to be able to look into the kitchen and see what was going on as the... More

For an authentic taste of Scotlands islands and Highlands look no further than River House, a beautiful restaurant on the banks of the River Ness overlooking the Grieg Street bridge to the Free North Church. The restaurants spectacular views are complemented by the casual sophistication of the dining room, a comfortable and unpretentious space with timeless design and a warm, cosy atmosphere which invites you to relax and really enjoy your dinner. Dedicated to sourcing the best possible ingredients from the surrounding areas, the River House kitchen cooks each dish to order in the open plan kitchen, using fresh, seasonal produce prepared in such a way that individual flavours shine through. Though mainly Scottish in heritage the River Houses recipes also take inspiration from international cuisine with, in particular, a nod to French cookery woven in to many of the creative, modern dishes. Wines are carefully selected to complement the River House menu, providing a good, but not overwhelming, choice of labels.
