Had a romantic meal out here earlier in the month. Sadly not quite what we expected. Food was amazing. But, as the kitchen is open to the restaurant, the atmosphere was a lot less chilled than we would have hoped. Chef came out to serve which added to the feeling of it being a bit hectic. Our table was close... More

We just managed to get table on a weekend visit to Inverness. From when we walked through the door we had a very warm welcome with very friendly attentive staff. The food was nothing short of superb, a lovely choice which was very well presented by the chef / owner Alfie. My wife had the sea bream starter followed by... More

Booking essential as this restaurant is always full. Easy to see why as the food and service are excellent. We had seafood starters and mains, all cooked to perfection in front of us in the 'open' kitchen. I have been here a few times now, never disappointed. Really stands out amongst the many very good places to eat in Inverness... More

I had the crab and grapefruit salad, the seabream, and the almond tarte. It was all very nice although they where terribly stingy with the crab. I realy liked the apple and mushrooms served with the fish, which is nice because usually I hate mushrooms. The pudding was not great but it was nice enough. I also had the coffe... More

Arriving early, we were led straight to our table in this small, intimate restaurant. On the way, we were greeted cheerily by the chef from the open kitchen. We ordered starters from the menu and out mains from the specials board all of which were magnificent seafood dishes, accompanied by a bottle of wine. The service was excellent and I... More

Had lunch here a couple of weeks ago. Good food from the 2 course lunch menu. Starters of crab/grapefruit salad and the black pudding/ poached egg salad; main courses of Tuscan pork and seafood linguini, best dish was the Tuscan pork which was beautifully tender and tasty. House wine was good, from an interesting list and service prompt and attentive;... More

Oysters, mussels, sea bream, all cooked beautifully. There was a mix up with one of the main courses, but it was handled well by the helpful and attentive staff and didn't detract from what was a lovely meal. Nice ambiance and a wide range of nationalities sampling Scottish seafood.

I was looking forward to our dinner here as I had enjoyed my reservation-making email communications with the Owner/Chef Allan “Alfie” Little. In his messages, he was very welcoming and seemed charming and lighthearted, and the reviews I had read also indicated he possessed serious cooking skills. And that combination of friendliness in the front and talent in the kitchen... More

Description
For an authentic taste of Scotlands islands and Highlands look no further than River House, a beautiful restaurant on the banks of the River Ness overlooking the Grieg Street bridge to the Free North Church. The restaurants spectacular views are complemented by the casual sophistication of the dining room, a comfortable and unpretentious space with timeless design and a warm, cosy atmosphere which invites you to relax and really enjoy your dinner. Dedicated to sourcing the best possible ingredients from the surrounding areas, the River House kitchen cooks each dish to order in the open plan kitchen, using fresh, seasonal produce prepared in such a way that individual flavours shine through. Though mainly Scottish in heritage the River Houses recipes also take inspiration from international cuisine with, in particular, a nod to French cookery woven in to many of the creative, modern dishes. Wines are carefully selected to complement the River House menu, providing a good, but not overwhelming, choice of labels.
