The truth is in the title. It was so tasty. Ribeye with peppercorn sauce. Its worth the money. This was our first visit but we will be back. Im not sure how good the dessert was as my other half stole mine. Keep up the good work.

The early evening menu is always such good value although last night we strayed off that to have the "special " of the evening - breast of chicken with skirlie potatoes , cabbage and a red wine jus . All three of us had it and rated it as one of the best dishes in a while . " Skirlie... More

Had the most lovely evening dining at this little gem of a place. I had the Halibut special which was to die for, and my friend had the steak which was also amazing. Could not fault a bit of our meal and the champagne complimented the evening perfectly. The staff couldn't have done enough and were so attentive but still... More

There is a small bar and they had some good gins including Isle of Harris. The service was very quick and the food was very good, almost a Michelin Star.

Popped in for dinner on Burns night. Early bird menu. Complimentary haggis bonbons for appetiser. Soup, calamari, mushroom stroganoff, haggis, cranachan. Happy Chappy on draft. All top class. Service first class. Prices good value, especially on the early bird. Can't rate it highly enough.

We went to the restaurant for lunch today and received a warm welcome. I had the two course for £12 menu and my husband had the main menu. My starter was bruschetta and then chickpea and squash curry with rice. Both courses were lovely. My husband had the mushroom soup which he said was the best he had tasted. He... More

Booked at short notice. Was busy but not packed. Courteous and friendly service. Great food and good value. Mid price - three courses, wine and port for two just under £100. We had scallops/black pudding and pork belly/stir fried veg to start. Pork fillet (that day's special) and smoked haddock/ bubble & squeak/ poached egg for main. Crepe/malteser ice cream... More

Cafe 1 is good by any standard. it is especially good in a city of only 45,000. We had excellent meals that relied on local meat and produce. Lamb was tender and flavorful; chicken stuffed with apricot and encased in pancetta was juicy and flavorful. Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice selection of fairly priced wines.
