The owners need to be schooled in hospitality. The service was slow, the food was not very good, and was overpriced. The waitress was very nice and friendly, and deserves to be working somewhere better than this, but the owners welcomed us as if we...were Jehovas witnesses....:) Abrupt, unwelcoming and cold. We definitely wont be back.....More

Tried to stop here for supper, couldn’t get through the door. Level of rudeness was something else.. Appreciate it was busy but absolutely no attempt to get us in or just to be polite about being full. Don’t bother even stopping here

Visited with my two children at 8.00 pm. It was made very clear that we were unwelcome unless we were ordering a full dinner. Very surprised by the abrupt manner of the staff member. Would recommend driving a couple of miles down the road to...Struy Inn or Cnoc Hotel for hospitable welcome and far superior fareMore

This pub does simple food really well. It’s a proper local place, which may lack the frills of tourist pubs, but more than makes up for it in the quality of food and comfortable atmosphere welcoming locals and visitors alike. My meal - local trout...with very fresh peas and potatoes - was one of the best I’ve had in Scotland (and I have had some lovely meals here).More

We popped in just over a week ago for some drinks while we were travelling through the area. The guy at the bar was incredibly short - to the point I thought he was doing a bit, like a gag. As I asked for the...various beers he said "Nope", which I worked out meant they didn't have it on. It was astonishingly blunt. It was like I was in his way or inconveniencing him. The pub advertises itself as "dog friendly", but when you go in you are swarmed by 4 (!) spaniels. It's quite intense. Our dog is pretty chilled and friendly, but this was a bit much for even him. We ended up leaving as it was just a hostile and stressful environment.More

Having just got home from an impromptu meal out whilst staying in Tomich I must say it was absolutely fabulous. We phoned about 1.5hrs prior to going and was offered a table with no problem. 5 Adults, 1 child (4yrs old) We were 15mins early,...this was no issue and we were shown to our table. Staff were welcoming and super good with my little one. The waitress was attentive and the owner was to the point with a lot of wit.. just what we like. The beer here is incredible (on good Intel from my hubby and brother in law)!! The food came and wow, it was freshly prepared and tasty with good portion sizes! Overall a lovely dining experience and I would take some of these reviews with a pinch of salt.More

Went along to get some food to take away as just arrived at our AirBnB at teatime. Although open, the restaurant and pub area was empty. We were a party of 2 adults and an 11 year old child. We ordered fish and chips. We...asked if they could do a child portion of their lamb curry and was told abruptly "No!". Anyway, the food arrived - 2 x Fish and chips and one lamb curry... £44. 50....Way over priced. The quality of the fish and chips was pathetic. The lamb curry was okay. I would not recommend this place at all. Very, very disappointing and quite frankly a rip off.More

Home cooked heart food. Caters for vegetarians too. We had pizza, pie, burgers and chilli. The chilli is made with beef steak. Delicious!

Would highly recommend a visit to the slaters arms, out of the 6 days we was in Cannich we visited on 4 occasions. It was only on the last evening where there was a group of 7 that seemed to be out to cause trouble....1 of the diners had already had a couple of beers before arriving and was set on being difficult from the start. The group then set out on upsetting the lovely young waitress, complaining that there wasn’t enough fries on the plate. To which she immediately said she we will go get another portion. To then continually making rude remarks thorough out the evening. Then….. when they went to pay they where confrontational to the lovely landlords. Once the group above left, the other diners all started to discuss how inappropriate the group was and was totally embarrassed for one in particular person in the group that was very apologetic for how they behaved. The pub is dog friendly and there is seperate areas in which the dogs are not allowed. Great holiday in all and we will not be put off by this, we are already planning on our next visit to slaters arms and cannich. Thanks you to all the slaters arms team…. !More

Thumbs down. Unwelcoming atmosphere and felt like we were treated very poorly on our first visit to the area. Can't complain about the quality of the food or the beer, but the owners were both hostile in their manner. Perhaps they are different with their...regulars who post the positive reviews on here. Wonderful area. Campsite great with a nice wee cafe. But would recommend buying food in the Spar and self catering. Such a shame really but the negative reviews on here reflect our own experience.More

The food is decent to very good, although some of the beef chilli starters were not hot enough. As for the ambience and customer service (over two evening visits for pre-dinner drinks and dinner): very poor and disappointing highland hospitality. Lady owner (& chef) became...really stressed at handling a group of 13 people - even although we had ordered main courses the previous day as requested. We had stated we were happy to be served at ~15 min intervals between the 3 tables. The owners attitude created an unpleasant atmosphere (as did being 'greeted' by 3 x dogs lying inside the front entrance, along with unhygienic dog blankets on some seats). However, all turned out reasonable on night one - as the waitress was really great ..(still unsure if she got the £15 tip we left for her). Evening 2 was a booking for 5 and 2 for dinner. Upon arrival for drinks, 11 of us sat with some consternation about seating and the 7 diners were told that they would have have to be seated for the meal 20 mins early. It then took 15 mins to take our order: unsure why we couldn't order when sitting with our friends for drinks? ..it all appeared to be stressful. When the main courses arrived, one was short on french fries and a 'top up' was politely requested. Scott, the owner then claimed we had upset the waitress, who we had earlier heard being berated by the lady owner in front of customers. We finished our main courses and were not offered any dessert. When we asked the waitress for the sweet menu, Scott then reappeared and we then questioned his attitude and customer service. We were refused desserts and asked to leave. Scott then abruptly and agressively served us a total bill and he seemed unable to itemise this as we requested. The lady owner had to resolve this, where she admitted that the waitress had served the fish & chips short, before she had a chance to put the correct amount on the plate. In summary some of our party were left upset, insulted and very disappointed. It is apparent both owners have serious issues regarding the organisational skills, manners and competencies required to run a bar and restaurant.More

The food here is amazing, especially the chilli beef starter and also the pizzas which are to die for!!! When we visited we were unfortunate enough to be joined by some rude and arrogant customers who actually managed to make the waitress cry but other...than that it was a great night, could not recommend enough… the landlords are a laugh and the atmosphere is good and the locals are always welcoming👌🏽More

I’m lucky that I visit Cannich a lot. I’ve started dining in the Slaters when over. The food is home cooked, fresh and tasty. Service has always been friendly and this visit was no exception. They have great beers on tap. The hosts are friendly...and accommodating. Sure they don’t open late but why should they. They work hard and long hrs and if you book ahead you’ll always be made welcome. For the naysayers, perhaps it’s your attitude that’s amiss. Hospitality has been hit hard this last 18 months, I know, as I too run a restaurant. Be friendly and you’ll get it back in spades. Ps- love the dogsMore

I can’t believe people leave reviews based on their perception of a slight or misplaced comment. We had a really good meal with very fresh food and excellent beer enjoyed the banter with the staff who are clearly working hard to build their business
