My girlfriend and I were on a short weekend tour around Inverness, and heading home from Glen Afric decided to stop in for a drink. The Covid Pandemic was on, so were prepared for the fact it may be bookings only. There's a sign on...the door saying minimum £10 charge when paying by card. (Why this should be, I'm not sure, seems to be merely a tax on not having cash since there's no cash point for some distance) Having asked politely at the door if we could come in for a drink, and been greeted somewhat coldly, we were told to sit on a sofa at the back of the pub as they were expecting bookings. This we did, giving due understanding that we were dropping in unannounced. I went to the bar and ordered a pint, a half pint, and a bag of crisps, and asked if we could have a soup and a roll to take the order over their £10 minimum. The barman explained that they couldn't provide food without a booking and so it was "ok" in this instance. I said that was very kind (expecting he meant waiving the £10 minimum) as I was having to pay by card. As he presented the terminal to me to pay, he kept the screen with the amount tilted away. I tried to bring it closer to have a look at the total, but he pulled it away from me as I tried again saying it was "ok". At this point I should have insisted and asked, but thought he may have been doing this out of respect for social distancing and presented my contactless card to the terminal. (Wasn't offered a receipt) I thanked him and took my drinks. Needless to say I was charged £10 for something costing just over £6 without this being expressly agreed at the time. Left a very bad taste in addition to the general atmosphere of being made to feel like unwanted customers. Did not feel welcome once with the added insult of being fleeced for not having cash. I understand there is a Pandemic on, but it's no excuse. We would have thanked them and left politely if they had explained they really couldn't take us. If you're thinking of stopping in and offering your business I'd advise you to think twice. If you do decide to go in, I'd count your change and read your receipts carefully.More

We were staying at the nearby Glen Affric Holiday Park. I booked the family in to the Slaters Arms for evening meal and drinks. We could not fault the 6 meals and the wine was lovely. The owner and the staff were amazing.

We were staying nearby and went for a drink. Felt very welcome and enjoyed our drink. You will get an ecstatic welcome from the resident very friendly dogs - Kyle, Heath & Bracken. We had a look at the menu and went back later in...the week. It's not "fancy food". It's good honest pub food. It's well cooked and served piping hot. It's the sort of food we love. When we ate there we were a party of four adults and two children. We all loved it. We would go back without hesitation and hope to in the autumn.More

This is my third visit to The Slaters Arms over the last 7 years, each time the food has been wonderful. The staff are very friendly, the locals welcoming and the dogs also :) Tonight I have had chilli, my wife had lasagne and we...both had sticky toffee for dessert. Oh and bbq pork ribs for dessert that were delish. The chilli was wonderful, just what was needed after a day out walking and the sticky toffee....well what can I see, deliciously light pudding and to die for sauce. We will be back. ThanksMore

We were staying at a nearby campsite and wondered down to have some food and drinks. The beef chilli and rib starters were soooooo good. My girlfriend I both enjoyed our lovely meals and the owners made us feel very welcome. They have put a...lot of thought into Covid precautions, really liked their menus which were pinned to a stand and brought to our table, great idea.More

We ate at The Slaters last night as it was within staggering distance of our campsite and we were not disappointed. It's fair to say we were expecting basic pub grub out of a jar but we were so wrong. Everything was fresh, homemade and...utterly delicious. The garlic chilli chicken curry I had was amazing. My son's pizza was the best he's tasted since we went to Rome and my daughter has never tasted better fish & chips. After dinner we relaxed in the bar area and were entertained by the pub's three dogs. The staff were friendly and accommodating and had clearly put some thought into how to make the best of this difficult current situation. It was good to see the place so busy.More

Food was homemade and delicious. We tried different things from the menu over 7 days we spent in the area and everything was mouthwatering. They made us feel welcome and didn't have anything against us bringing our 2 mastiffs inside with us. I even got...a book from the owner explaining different types and flavours of whisky which helped me to decide what to have after the delicious meals. 100% recommended.More

Ate here almost every day whilst we stayed in their nearby lodges. The food is absolutely delicious and you should 100 percent come in and try it for yourself if you are in the region. There is a bar offering lager, IPA, cold drinks and...a nice blend and malt whisky selection. The owners are really friendly and there is a great all round atmosphere, allowing you to enjoy your meal or drink in full. Highly recommend!More

Strange times indeed with Covid19 all around so it was great to spend a few days away with my family in Cannich and top it off with a lovely time in the Slaters. The food was all freshly prepared and very tasty. We shared a...couple of starters before enjoying our mains. The menu has enough choice to cater for all tastes. The Cairngorm ales are pretty decent too if you're looking forward to a nice cold pint. It's a dog friendly establishment which is great for campers looking for a relaxing and welcoming meal or drinks.More
