This is one of those places that struggles to live up to some of its more rave reviews. The food was fine, but not great. My husband had beef pie, which was OK. I had fish and chips, it could have been warmer and the chip shop curry sauce has less substance that a thinish soup - did not coat... More

Lovely restaurant. Food very tasty, I had the black pudding and chorizo salad followed by sticky toffee pudding. Fab range of gins too. Staff very attentive but not too much so. Would highly recommend.

I ate at the Winking owl in hope of some European food and a break from American food which is what most pubs are doing. But here I had the Sunday roast (only on Sundays) for a good price. They were very generous with the portions and quality of the food. I would recommend this pub for good bear that... More

We visited this venue July 2016 on two occasions during our holiday. The first occasion we were two couples dining out in the evening. I ordered a burger and they allowed me substitute chips for salad. The food was of exceptionally high quality, and the service was excellent. We ordered malt of the month after the meal, but unfortunately they... More

Stopped in about 2pm hoping for lunch. Met by cheerful staff behind bar & told food would be no trouble. Had spicy chicken salad with salt & pepper fries. Which was a special (not on standard menu). Absolutely lovely. Whole chicken breast which had a dry spicy rub on it. Still moist and very tasty. Seasoned fries also very morish.... More

We arrived without a booking to be told they were full that night so we booked for the following evening. Having been in the past we know how good the place is and we were not disappointed. A good selection on the menu with a strong emphasis on local produce. Excellent service and the place has a 'good pub' feel... More

We ate here for dinner as we were spending a night in Aviemore. Advisable to book as it gets very busy. We had a very enjoyable meal with an extensive range on the menu. (I am vegetarian and had no issues with choosing something!) We both had fish and it was lovely. A good portion followed by pudding. The restaurant... More

Really nice appetizer, solid standards and a couple interesting more adventurous plates. It was a busy night and the staff seemed a touch overwhelmed, but remained pleasant.

Our first meal out in Scotland and it didn't disappoint. Generous portions and good quality food! The staff were very attentive and friendly. Also a good selection of drinks from the bar. We shared olives/feta and bread to start, two main meals (about £13 each) and then an ice cream sundae to share. Two ales, cider and coffee all for... More
