I had dinner at Malmaison Brasserie. We were able to get in at an hours notice which was a good thing as we tried other restaurants in the locality which were fully booked. You go downstairs into a cellar type room decorated with neutral colours, all a bit stark. The food was expensive, soup good but and the fish was... More

The staff are friendly and very efficient. The Honours restaurant is excellent for a special Sunday Lunch. The food and portions were first-rate. The Roast Sirloin of Donald Russell Beef, (medium rare) cut like a dream and the accompanying vegetables were cooked to perfection. My husband had the Cauliflower Veloute and I had the Chicken Liver Parfait with Caramelised apple,... More

We were here with a group of friends due to a recommandation from a great cook elsewhere. but I must say we were a bit disapointed. Whilst the service was friendly and attentive, we were served very slowly, even though the restaurant was not too busy. We ordered safran risotto. It was cooked al dente as we like it, but... More

My partner and I dined there last night. The starters and deserts were excellent. However we both had unappetising steak for the main course which wasn't worth the price. The vegetables consisted of 3 small tomatoes and the sort of chips one associates with McDonald's or Burger King, small ,thin and heavily salted.Poor fare.

Cold fish and wrong appetizer were disappointing - French chef de service was distanced and cool to cold with customers

As much as the sumptuous surroundings are beautiful, service and organisation was so lacking. A private party had been booked for a cocktail making class and dinner which had been pre booked and paid for in full some time before attending. We were late in being ushered into our private room so order VERY expensive drinks from the bar. Finally... More

3.5/5 I arranged this as part of a birthday stay with my wife. For starter, I had the pate which was very good. For main, the sirloin steak which was cooked slightly under what I asked but it was still very good - cooked in a lovely glaze. The peppercorn sauce wasn't the tastiest but was decent. Loads of very... More

This is a lovely restaurant, we opted for the pri fixe menu, 2 courses £18.50, delicious food, served by attentive and professional staff, all run like clockwork.

Perhaps "fine dining" is not for me,as a taxi driver iv often dropped the well healed at this establishment and when I saw an offer of £18.50 per head on a two course menu I took my wife to sample the cuisine and ambience. Before going for the early dinner (18.30) we went for a cocktail but found none were vodka... Description
"In the lively, bohemian Port of Leith, Malmaison Brasserie reigns supreme as a superlative place to meet and eat. The highly chic Art Nouveau French brasserie has sleek, stylish decor and actual port views. The staff are passionate about food, wine and service, and the dining room is lit with that brasserie buzz. Malmaison Executive Chef, Roy Brett has overall direction.

What's cooking? Inspiration is taken from great 'French brasserie-style dishes' and further enhanced with a unique contemporary twist. Dishes include char-grilled ribeye with cafe de paris butter and fine beans and salmon fishcake with parsley sauce and buttered spinach. For those of you with a sweet tooth, be sure to try the tarte tartin with creme chantilly.
