I visited green gate cafe for the first time and will definitely be back. The staff are amazing and so attentive the food is delicious. The price for both food and drink is very fair they also have the choice of the green gate lager which I would also recommend. I cannot wait to go back this has quick become my new favourite restaurant in the Merchant city. Please consider for a visit 😊

We went today for the first time. Really beautiful decoration inside. The staff were extremely attentive but not intrusive. We had the 2 course lunch for £8.95 which was fantastic value. The starter was presented beautifully & had some extra special touches. Our main meals were also delicious & you could tell that everything was home made with no bright red food colourings. We loved it & will definitely return.

Formerly Guy’s restaurant, the interior retains much of what was Guy’s, with subtle changes to reflect the change in direction. I visited on a quiet Sunday evening for a very pleasant meal with excellent, attentive service and great food. The menu is more limited than you would normally expect for an Indian restaurant in the West of Scotland, but this clearly reflects the emphasis on quality. I would recommend a visit.

Wow, what can I say. Being from Birmingham, home of the curries, I like to think we know a bit about spice. We’ve also recently been to Delhi and India and had some amazing food but have never had food like it since, until tonight. The food was outstanding, fresh, clean and full of flavour. For starter I had the Mumbai pan puri the waiter advised how I should eat it, which I was grateful for. For main I had a ‘small portion’ reasonable size of lamb kadhi, the lamb was so tender. The Nan bread, was thin, crispy and delicious. At the end of our meal we were treated to a dessert. A truly great evening. The owner and staff were friendly and covid aware. I wish them all the luck in the world. It may not not look as fancy from the outside as nearby Indian restaurants but don’t judge a book by its cover, otherwise you’ll miss out on a fabulous meal.

Visited this restaurant tonight after visiting clients in Glasgow. Restaurant was empty only because everyone in Glasgow was watching Scotland V England but that didn’t detract from the atmosphere. We were blown away by the food. had prawns to start and lamb chops but prior to that a wee amuse bouche mushroom soup which was so very tasty then tandoori sea bass and salmon dishes . We have eaten out a lot at Indian restaurants and this is most definitely the tastiest one by far and absolutely could not fault the service. Thankyou for an amazing night, Scotland may not have scored but you were all winners

Visited on the 21st July 2020 with family and would definitely go back. Food was lovely and staff very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend the honey chilli potato fritters to start - amazing, chicken pakora was also very good. Very generous sized starters. Got the chilli garlic chicken for main which was also very tasty. Staff were very attentive and even gave us all a few tasters to try for free - all which were delicious. Defo worth a try!!

We used a social voucher in this restaurant, four people 10 tapas, rice and naan, 4 250ml glasses of wine for £52 - extremely good value, all dishes were very tasty, fresh and delicious,£3 EXTRA for fish pakora 5 pieces, delicious but pricey.
Very friendly staff, perhaps a name tag would be a good idea (minor moan) helps to identify who did well etc
Ive dined in hundreds of restaurants, got 100,000s of readers, this isnt average its a lot better than that the only gripe I could find is the bar prices, £7.50 for 250ml house wine £4.95 for a stella, bordering on expensive if your a wine drinker.
The restaurant is well placed and immaculate inside, the deals on the net are very attractive and the food is top quality, you wont be disappointed,I would rate it overall 9 from 10 Ive purchased another voucher for 4
The above views were shared by each of our party, my daughter was so impressed she returned two days later,I would have rated it excellent but the bar prices detracted from that, to be fair, its a restaurant not a bar

This was a return visit but we brought a friend who is a bit of a 'curry connoisseur' so the pressure was on. We really needn't have worried. We ordered mixed pickles and onions with poppadums while we waited on or starters to arrive but we were also brought little cups of home made spicy tomato soup as an extra, on the house, which was a lovely touch and this was delicious. We opted for various healthy starters including tandoori fish, broccoli and paneer and the various curries and naan breads we shared were superb. Our friend was really impressed! You might miss this place, as it's small from outside, but the food and service more than makes up for that.

We are regulars at the Renfrew restaurant, but as we were in the city centre we took advantage of the 30% off deal which is fantastic value. Delicious food-tandoori mixed grill and fish pakora both stand out dishes. Restaurant clean and good social distancing measures in place. Service friendly, welcoming and just right with attentiveness. Had a lovely meal and we think it is great value even without the discount.

One of the best meals we’ve had in years. The food was excellent, the staff very friendly and nothing was too much trouble and we couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome. This was our first visit to the green gates cafe but definitely won’t be our last. We did go on a voucher deal we bought online and honestly feel embarrassed by the deal that we got. I would have no hesitation in recommending this place and would gladly pay full price in the future. When we sat down, water was added to the table without us asking, a complimentary mini soup was served whilst we looked at the menu, we weren’t rushed to decide or when we finished our meal and can’t empathises enough how attentive the staff where all for the price that a take away would have cost us. Prices out-with the deal are still fantastic for the quality of the food and service provided.

First time trying this place, we had deal for 2 people on woucher, three starters & wine each, we got complementary poppadoms and spicy onions, had chicken and veggie pakora (which is one of the nicest I’ve tasted in a long time) curries were lovey (could have had a little more sauce) but still very pleasant. The wine was very nice not a cheap house wine but a lovely Chardonnay. The staff were so friendly, polite and very accommodating. You can tell this is a family run business. The decor was very nice and it had a great relaxing vibe. If you are looking for good home made Indian food with nice staff and a good vibe this is the place to be. I will definitely be back for more

Really disappointed by the meal. Portions are served as tapas but in very small pots with around two spoonfuls of food per portion. Even the Lamb chops .. two really small pieces for £8 and more salad than meat.
If on a groupon voucher they limit dishes to the vegetarian options or charge supplements of around £3 or more for meat or fish, so you end up paying full price anyway.
Staff are friendly but the pricing model is way off. Far better tapas places in Glasgow but if you like small plates and paying a premium for them then this may be the restaurant for you.

Green Gates Cafe
Gentleman many thanks for your review.
The deal you bought a deal for £19 which includes 5 tapas and one rice and for any seafood dish added we charge an extra £3, not any meat dish. Can you please check your deal?
That means if you divide 6 by 19, For the average dish, you pay £3.16 per dish only and the voucher
company charging us 25% for selling our voucher on their website
Now you tell us what we are making in this.
And from last one month, everyone knows prices are gone very high. But our tapas menu still starts from £4. And in your review, you wrote for my Neighbour restaurant charges £16 for the starter and £22 for the mains.
So please we request you to stop criticising us. we are working hard to run our business and we have seen very hard times during the pandemic.
Still many thanks for the review.
Kind regards

My husband and I had a meal here for the first time and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and jam packed with flavour. The honey and chilli potato fritters for starter were so good. I could have licked the plate! I had chicken chasni and my husband had chicken tikka for our mains and we both cleared the plates. Super tasty and a bit different to anywhere else I've tried. We both also really enjoyed the garlic naan which was cooked perfectly and very moreish we are both happy we decided to come here tonight as both the portions and prices were good. The staff were all very lovely and friendly too. I highly recommend and we will be back very soon with friends and family!

It could hardly have been worth their opening for what just seemed to be us and a few takeaways. We were in town for urgent optician’s appointments and had booked online here the day before. When we arrived we were the only ones there. We would have understood entirely had they contacted us to cancel our booking. We are so grateful they didn’t. We were told that they had taken plenty of bookings in anticipation that the restrictions would have been lifted on Friday, but when they weren’t the bookings were cancelled. The fish pakoras were just incredible. So much flavour, yet the fish was beautifully moist and piping hot. The marinated lamb chops were very good with lots of meat on them. We also ordered the chilli honey potatoes as starters and they were just as good as previous reviews had led us to expect. We had a small main portion of butter chicken, a beautiful lamb dish (sorry we can’t remember the name), tandoori king prawns, mushroom rice and a garlic naan. All were very good indeed. Someone came in after eight o’clock wanting to eat, but the staff politely explained that due to Covid restrictions they could not be served. This person had clearly had a few shandies and gave them a bit of abuse but the staff remained clam and polite. All Covid precautions were observed and we were not offered any alcohol. We were given still water and we ordered a bottle of sparkling as well. All in all we can’t praise the Green Gates Cafe enough and encourage everyone to give it a try as soon as possible. You will not be disappointed and the business deserves as much custom as possible.

The Green Gates Cafe is a revelation. The food was beautifully prepared and presented, healthy and absolutely delicious. The staff were very friendly and courteous and the atmosphere and decor are lovely and relaxed.
I spoke with the owner who was telling me they had opened just a few months before COVID19 arrived and lockdown hit. They are doing a brilliant job in difficult circumstances, keeping staff and diners safe and sound while serving fantastic food. They deserve to do very well and when the pandemic is over I expect you'll need to book well in advance! A return visit is a must.
