The welcome was very good even on a Fringe night. We booked ahead as we were a party of five. The food was exceptional as were the staff. They even took one of our party into the kitchens to show him around so that he could see the food being prepared. The chefs by the way were the parents of... More

New Indians are always a walk into the unknown, the menu looks familiar but will the dishes resemble those at your regular haunts? I found this a big step down from the Indian/Bangladeshi food I've become used to in other parts of the U.K. It was more what I'd expect from a cheap late night take away - too much... More

We had a lovely meal here when visiting Edinburgh for the Fringe with friends. It is a great family run restuarant and so friendly. The portions of food are very big and tasty (and we know our Indian food) will def come back. Unfortunately my knee dislocated (at least we had finished our meal) and we had to get a... More

After reading such raving reviews I booked a table for myself and three friends. We were seated in a quite restaurant and greeted by staff in a friendly manner. Unfortunately two of my friends arrived late, but again the staff were understanding, indicating no rush and to take our time. We were talked through the menu by a lovely member... More

We were a group of four ladies having dinner and a catch up before seeing a show. We booked a table for 6pm as we thought it would be busy during fringe time. We arrived, ordered, ate our meal and drank our byo fizz. It was a lovely evening and we were in a fantastic mood - dinner had been... More

Food can make a good restaurant, but the experience can make it a great one. And this is definitely a great one. Firstly, the greeting we had from a lovely woman with such a fantastic personality made us feel very welcome and relaxed. The food was all cooked perfectly, each dish had it's own flavour also the sundries like rice,... More

A group of us went here and were not disappointed! Warmly welcomed, the smells of spices as we entered were incredible. The menu was great and had a lot of interesting dishes not often found in curry houses. The atmosphere was brilliant and the staff were kind and helpful. The food was delicious and even though we had some hot... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
