Last time I tried Kismot I had the "Killer", the massively hot curry, which was fine but (maybe not surprisingly) not exceptionally interesting taste-wise, given that the squadrillion Scoville units somehow overwhelmed any other flavours. This time I had a Chicken Jalfrezie & a Sag side dish and really enjoyed the food. Especially the spinach was wonderful, freshly cooked, tasty,... More

This is a favourite among locals and students so think of booking ahead. Simply put, the Indian food is delicious! Some of the best traditional Indian in Edinburgh, along with the Indian cavalry. This curry house is famous for its spicy curry challenge! £0 if you finish it; £20 if you can't. It's horrendous, so I definitely don't recommend that... More

This place is a hidden gem, wonderful friendly staff that make you feel so welcome. The food cooked by the mum and dad is amazing every time. It is a nice change to find a lovely family run restaurant that always delivers. We come every week and can't recommend it highly enough.

The curries were excellent! Nice place. Friendly service. When they say spicy, they mean it! Not too expensive. Everyone liked their dishes.

We went here on a Monday night for a curry as we'd been a few times before over the years and it was close by. There was a large group in for a birthday party (about 15 people) in a space at the other side of the restaurant. Things started off in a very celebratory style, a birthday cake with... More

Good Indian grub - Chicken Tikka pieces to start were very tasty. Chicken Sag for main wasn't bad, but not the best I've had. Big portion sizes. Family-run - the staff are lovely and the service is quick. Was a bit quiet, but that was early on on a Sunday evening.

Wife, teenage son, and self were told on the train to Edinburgh to try Kismot for a great meal. In the Apple Store today, I mentioned same to our technician, who raved about it, as did another customer a couple of seats away. So we booked and showed up for 7:30 tonight. It was wonderful. The service was perhaps the... More

I had a wonderful meal at Kismot, the lamb rogan josh was one of the best curries I have had. The service was also excellent. Highly recommended.

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
