Great real Italian , fab staff. We had bruschetta plus king prawn in white wine also garlic bread with spicy sausage. One tuna pizza and one with Parma ham and rocket with Parmesan. Spaghetti Bolognese Ana a Gnocchi al sugo which the pieces of beef was melt in your mouth. We then had tiramisu so light. We went for thr... More

Extremely disappointed having had previous excellent dining experiences here before. First of all I had a black hair (not one of ours as we don't have black hair) on my starter plate which I promptly returned. The main course took the best part of an hour to arrive. With hungry children this was not great. Pizza very watery and the... More

Like a previous reviewer i was disappointed in the "fair only" pizza. The base is more like a freezer style pizza rather than an authentic style. The pasta was very good and the wine list offered plenty of local and European options. We chose an authentic Italian wine which was scrumptious. So I'd go back and order a spag/pasta dish... More

Popped in for small pizza and a salad before a show. The pizza I ordered came on a what can only be described as a supermarket base and the £4 side salad was wilted iceberg drowning in dressing. I sat by the window where staff kept going in and out of a door and the strong smell of bins would... More

My daughter and I had a delicious dinner at Giulianos. Calamari to die for, and the carbonara was one of the best I have ever had. Pizza also delicious. Service was perfect as they helped us choose the food and wine. We will be back.

Visited Giuliano's for a friends birthday having not been before and safe to say we were not disappointed! The food was lovely! Reasonably priced and the selection on the menu was brilliant. Food arrived quickly and piping hot. I really love italian food and hadn't been to an italian restuarant in ages so this place was perfect! Will definitely be... More

Whilst looking for somewhere to eat before the start of Cats we came across this small shop front which looked like a small Italian restaurant. I thought they would be fully booked as they are just across the road from the theatre . We popped in on the off chance that they could squeeze two more in , we were... More

I love this restaurant. Every time I go to Edinburgh I go here to have dinner. Most recently being April 2016 for my birthday. They have great offers on Pre-Theatre menus. The place is located directly across from the Playhouse so the location is great if going to a show. The prices are very reasonable and every dish I have... More

We had a lovely meal at Giuliano's. I can understand it not being everyone's cup of tea but we both really liked it. The service was attentive, Italian spoken throughout. The antipasti was good but standard. Meatballs were tasty. It did seem a bit dated but that was part of the allure. Italians are traditional.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
