Another visit to the Red Fort and a buffet this time. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pakora had run out but a request brought more. The food was nice and hot and very tasty. Had to go round three times to try it all. Verdict - excellent as usual. Highly recommended.

I've been there few days ago. The food was amazing, one of the best I've ever ate. The service is fast and very warm. If you took the menu for two people, the quantity of food is unbelievable; so tasty and good. I really recommend it!! A really good place to eat! Well done!

The name is decidedly Indian. Rest all is a fraud. This place DOES have Indian dishes on menu but they ARE NOT ANYTHING that the dish is supposed to be! We ordered four items-each worse than the other, ended up leaving most on the table. Interestingly, it did not bother the manager, who also doubles up as a disinterested waiter. As... More

We popped into the Red Fort - as I guess many do - with an hour to spare between shows at the Fringe for a quick eat. Accordingly we chose the buffet and nipped round the corner to Tesco Extra for some wine and beer (as others have commented, this is a BYOB place). To be honest, at under a... More

I didn't have much time & had a craving for a Naan, so as I was passing The Red Fort I nipped in and ordered one to take away. Mistake. I would not have believed it was possible to produce a bad Naan, but this was dull, flat (physically) and tasteless - some achievement. Sorry.

It's not too much to look at and the decor seems a bit 'ordinary'. We arrived quite early in the evening and the place got busier as we were there. The food was much better than average and we were both very happy with our choice. The service was good. Perhaps a bit out of the norm for Edinburgh was... More

Buffet options small menu. Fairly standard fare but cheap and tasty and quick. No alcohol. .. useful during fringe but probably won't revisit

Great place to go for promptly served tasty food - but particularly if you are in town for the Fringe and need a meal at an odd hour when everything else is closed.

There was a buffet option at £9.50 eat as much as you like, but we decided on the so called 'a la carte' menu - a poor choice! The mixed kebab starter was fine but the curries were absolutely awful. I had a chicken jalfrezi which was really the worst I have ever had; there was no spice or kick... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
