Banquet was luke warm throughout. Pillau rice was really good. All curries were not spicy at all and the lamb was non existent. So only one curry! Starters were lying about too long and hard. Not much choice and no plates to hand so had to wait to be given plates. Decided to use same plate over and over. Chicken... More

Me and my family have been coming to red fort for the last 4/5 years and we have never had a bad experience! The staff are always attentive and kind, and the food is always executed to a high standard, though it is best to go at certain times when there is still plenty food and that it is freshly... More

I was looking for open buffet Halal restaurant in Edinburgh, One of my friends told me about Red Fort. The place is cozy, the service is good and welcoming, yet the food, which is why people go to such places, was average regarding the variety and the quality. Moreover, the price was good (8 pounds). However, I cannot tell when... More

My partner and I love curry sooooo much but we also have the fear of veering from our usual haunts - We'll I'm glad we did on this occasion. We were out for a drink and fancied some food (curry) and walked past the Red Fort. The actual restaurant deco doesn't look like it's been updated since the 70s but... More

The most awful curry I have ever had. Luke warm, insipid and mainly sauce. It was supposed to contain lamb, I'm sure some was in there. Somewhere. I'm just not certain. The sauce was awful, nothing like any curry I ever tasted before. I will not recommend or go back. Simply awful. Yuk.

Good quality food with reasonable price. We went there on 27th Dec 2016 and after finding that this is the only restaurant where tables are available. However the food was good with reasonable price. The quality of naan can be improved as the naans and rotis were very hard to chew,

No airs and graces, no drinks license either, so relies on the food (as any restaurant should) and the lure of bring your own, with no corkage. And it delivers! Out with some regular curry eaters and we all thought it was really good. Good poppadums, hot fresh naan, and flavourful curries. Had my standard chicken madras, and it really... More

If you are in need of Indian for around North Bridge area of Edinburgh, you won't go far wrong here. Good food, nice attentive staff and although there is no alcohol licence, you cane buy your tipple at the Brass Monkey 2 doors away.

We went for an afternoon buffet. We just missed the 3 pm cut-off but the manager let us in anyway. Great choice of dishes. Very tasty and excellent value for money.

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
