I really hope this restaurant returns after the coronavirus pandemic. My party had purchased itison vouchers and booked on a Friday night. As luck (although maybe luck is not the right term in the current circumstances) would have it, our booking was for the last...evening before restaurants were advised to close. There were only two members of staff on and they worked hard and made it a night to remember for every party. The restaurant was understandably not at full capacity and this made the experience all the more special. As it was essentially the "last supper," the tasting menu was extended from 7 courses to 10 courses. Great food, wonderfully presented and full of flavour. The owner/manager was welcoming, friendly, informative and attentive without overdoing it. There was a real sense of togetherness throughout the whole establishment as guests laughed and chatted and the staff engaged and entertained. Highlights were the celeriac broth, chicken liver, Jerusalem artichoke with haggis and the chocolate seville orange dessert. We looked forward to every course. You don't know what you're getting until you arrive and can see the menu on the whiteboard. All the guests are talked through the menu as a group and served the food at the same time. Unique and quirky experience. Makes you feel like you're at a dinner party which has a real sense of fun yet a relaxed atmosphere where you feel comfortable to ask any questions or have a bit of banter. Loved every minute of it, and hope to return when life gets back to normal. Thank you to all at the Edinburgh Food Studio for making it a night to remember, and wishing you every success in the future.More

Two long communal dining tables in pleasant surroundings, with good public transport links and wash in street parking. We were given this voucher as a gift and chose to add the matching wine flight. You definitely felt under pressure to have aperitifs even having ordered...wine or the paired wine flights, then coffee/tea/digestifs. The theatre with which the menu was introduced prior to dining was very entertaining although it felt like drinking from a firehose as so much information was pushed at you. Great to know the providence of the ingredients and where to source them should you choose. The food was certainly adventurous and experimental, with some courses better than others. I appreciate it’s difficult serving 20+ covers the same dish at the same time, but this often compromised the plates arriving hot. Luke warm smoked haddock and similarly chewy chicken. We very much enjoyed the company of our fellow diners which made the evening more of a success. If you order the cheese plate at additional £8 you will receive a sliver of Brie! When you are offered a refill of bread you will see this added to the bill!!!More

Amazing flavours. We went for the set tasting lunch. Friendly, relaxed service. Wooden, communal tables, with an interesting view of the kitchen and chefs at work! The dishes were fantastic- everything tasted so good we had to hold ourselves back from licking the plates clean!!...They even catered for my fussy tastes, substituting dishes where needed. We have been before and would definitely go again.More

Really enjoyed our set lunch at the Food Studio; every dish was truly stunning. Good size portion, nicely presented and the quality of the ingredients was fabulous. My wife and I cleared every plate. A fantastic culinary experience at this out of city centre restaurant....The only disappointment was the coffee; which was a bit bitter.More

This restaurant is some distance from the city centre and from the gourmet hot spots of Leith . While the ambience is pleasant it does not offer the stylish opulence of Edinburgh’s Michelin starred restaurants. .....food is served at long communal tables. Do not be...deterred. The food’s the thing. Sharing is encouraged so you have the chance to try many dishes. The food is inventive and beautifully presented...... unusual ingredients and combinations but nothing daft. All is harmonious and delicious. This kitchen ranks with any I have experienced throughout the world .More

Had Sunday dinner here- having previously had lunch a few months ago. Stunning menu- amazing crab soup. Carrots with Bergamot was a interesting dish. Fantastic scallops, beetroot and parfait ( tasted almost like Foie grae) pheasant. Deserts amazing too- Almafi lemon, blood orange with little...donuts and Douglas fit . Amazing service and paired wines. It is a communal table but we’re lucky with spaced out group!More

We had a thoroughly enjoyable experience here. I'd been a little dubious about sharing a table with complete strangers, but somehow it worked and the acoustics of the room meant you could still hold your own conversation. Food was absolutely delicious and we liked the...concept of sharing a plate between two. Every mouthful was absolutely delicious and left a lovely aftertaste. Even things I didn't think I would like managed to taste great! Staff were very friendly and explained the ingredients of each dish. Drinks were a little pricey. We opted for wine by the glass - had a lovely Grenache - orange wine - first time we've had that. Beautifully chilled. A small restaurant but very pleasant ambience. We'd had an Itison offer and will definitely return. AmbMore
