Tremendously enjoyed my birthday dinner here thanks to the recommendation of our hotel concierge. The interior is largely white, which provides a calming ambiance for one to relax and enjoy a cocktail, leisurely meal, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed several courses and a bottle of wine. Fabulous wine list too.

Chose the taster menu and didn't regret it once. Every course was a treat for the tastebuds and the wine accompaniment offered a selection and variety to suit all palettes. Service was prompt and professional and the explanations of each course were welcomed. We ate slowly and savoured every aspect of each course for full appreciation. Best dining experience for... While not on our advance reservation selection, happily we ended up dining here during our visits to Edinburgh twice. Our first visit was for lunch during our tourist visit of Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, and Holyrood house. We couldn't get in to the Witchery (next time) after visiting Edinburgh Castle, so we continued our walk down the Royal Mile.... More

Took a group of 7 persons here and were seated downstairs on this occasion. perhaps not as open as the upstairs tables, the service was still attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. One vegan guest was very satisfied by the dedicated menu provided for her and it looked so delicious that one other colleague went as far as the dessert before cracking... More

The meal and service was without doubt excellent, the problem for me was/is the tables and chairs are not suited for eating the design means you are sat a long way from the table!! secondly the place makes a big thing about values but the website has not been updated since 2015 and the team apparently consists of the owner... My husband and I have recently had a three day break in Edinburgh. We were looking for somewhere to eat one evening. I had noticed this restaurant earlier whilst walking the royal mile. I telephoned around 5.30 on the off chance of getting a table. It was refreshing to be greeted so positively. They had just had a cancellation. The... More

The setting is warm with comfortable chairs in ample supply considering the dining room's small size. While being seated next to a window into the kitchen was entertaining, I would not recommend it for anyone with children, since frequent swearing was clearly audible, detracting somewhat from the refined atmosphere. The celeriac velouté was texturally perfect, and almond flakes were the... More

A restaurant trying too hard to be clever. Very pretentious menu which, when it was delivered, was poor. Undercooked fish and v egetables and very pricey for small portions. Why try so hard when you don't make it!

Booked this super restaurant for a senior corporate dinner as I knew it could be relied upon and boy, was I right! The helpful ladies set out my table plan and seating cards as requested and were more than accommodating on the evening. As usual, the service did not disappoint and it just so happened Wedgewood had introduced a new... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
