Having never been but always kept on meaning to go way back when it was monster mash, I finally went and loved it. Great for if youre a tourist and on a budget, great for if youre not and just want comfort food too. Portions are huge and are great value for money, only £8.50 for a huge 2 sausage... More

The staff here was friendly, interesting and helpful. The food was wholesome and quality, portions were moderate to large and the prices were great. Full english or scottish breakfast for less than coffee and a sandwich at starbucks. Lunch was impressive, full of local flavor and again moderate if not inexpensive price-wise.

What a lovely moment we spent there, relaxing, eating very nice homemade-feeling-like dishes! There is a little bit of a queue but it is worth it! Plus the staff is so nice, smiling and full of energy. You will never mind waiting. I personally recommend some soup but followed by a delicious apple crumbLe ;)

If you've always wondered what home-cooked traditional Scottish food would be like, then look no further than Mums. It doesn't have a huge menu, but what it does have is comfort food out the wahzoo.

Fantastic place for Sausage and Mash! Choose your type of sausage, mash and gravy then read the Beano while you wait. What more could you want!

We had lunch there. The place wasn't that busy when we entered. It took a while for them to attend to us. They were very accommodating to our needs. However, they served mashed potatoes with chicken as part of a marked vegetarian meal. Good thing I noticed. Also, lunch took over two hours, not something we were planning for.

Been here quite a few times now with people I support at work. Staff are excellent and never had a bad meal yet (and I've sampled most of the menu now) would eat there every day if I could!

We had a fabulous lunch here. The staff were very accommodating with our little one. Service was excellent, super friendly and knowledgeable. Had the pumpkin veggie pie and the bangers and mash. Both were great tasting. Also ordered a kids portion of Mac n cheese and it was yummy!

Comfort food is in the name and that is what you get. We ate their two nights in a row. The first night was good, the second night was outstanding. The folks recognized us, welcomed us back, and made us feel like regulars at "cheers" I am not any expert on haggis, only ever eaten it once, but what I... More

We ate here twice during our visit. Food is great. It does take a long time for food to come to the table when the restaurant is full (which it is most of the time for dinner). The meat pies were great; fish and chips just ok.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
