We dropped in for a meal without knowing anything about the restaurant, and the food was fantastic. Ali,the owner, was very friendly and the chicken shwarma wrap was lovely and spicy, the best I have ever had.

Amazing array of delicacies from the Middle East- kebabs were awesome. Great Service. The Shisha Terrace provides you an opportunity to enjoy a lazy afternoon lunch with just the right amount of sunlight- would recommend to sit outside on the terrace. The flavoured hukkah (Shisha Pipe) was a special experience for the ladies.

We didn't know what to expect in Hanam's - friends had described the food as Kurdish or maybe Lebanese - and we were truly surprised and delighted at the range of dishes on the menu. The food is incredible - fabulously fresh, with each mouthful bursting with a different flavour: absolutely delicious. Wonderful, helpful staff. If you are visiting Edinburgh,... More

Great middle eastern restaurant with a great selection of wraps, platters and Kebabs. We all opted for kebabs and a number of starters. All delicious. It's BYOB! Staff are very friendly and helpful. Enjoy.

We had a hankering for falafel at lunch so we set out to find a Middle Eastern joint nearby the Royal Mile; we found this more upscale restaurant and we are glad we did. It’s just off the Royal Mile and there were definitely a few other tourists enjoying themselves and digging into large portions of Kurdish and Middle Eastern... More

First place for me for a sheesha in Edinburgh. Love the view from the terrace. Sheesha is quite nice. The mint flavour is best that they offer. The staff is warm. A must go before it starts getting too cd to sit outside

Walked past this restaurant looking for somewhere to eat and liked the look of the menu. I was not disappointed by the choice and delicious food produced. Staff were helpful and the flavours were great , on a business trip this was a great find. Prices were all reasonable for the quality of food.

We had the set meal for two which was £40. Food was tasty and something different. Waiter was very helpful and informative. Be aware that they don't sell alcohol and that you can BYO or alternatively you can go to the nearby pub which is on the terrace.

Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern Restaurant and if you think that's a mouthful, wait until you see what on offer! Voted one of Britain's Top 5 Middle Eastern Restaurants by the Telegraph, owner Ahmed ensures the personal touch, by being there seven days a week to offer advice and banter. The menu offers starters such as falafel and baba ghanoush, main courses that include Kurdish pizzas, vegetarian casseroles and halal meat dishes, such as Kurdish-style lamb biryani. There are also a selection of shish kebabs and desserts. Three courses from this banquet-like menu will cost an average of just £20 per person. And, if you're so inclined, you can even smoke a traditional hookah after your meal.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
