Top a group of friends here and we all loved it! First off... it's BYOB! we all shared the big sharing starters and they were amazing. The deep fried naan... there are no words. I'm a vegetarian and I ordered the aubergine dish which was spectacular. I was also told that the lamb and the chicken were top notch. You... More

After a day of walking around the city we were pleased to stumble into Hanam’s form down on Victoria Street. The staff were interested and attentive and the food….From the olives and haloumi cheese to the flavorful lamb and chicken entrees everything was really good. The options of Kurdish or Iranian style just add to the adventure. The portions are... More

I went to Hanams on a Saturday night with a group of friends. The menu choice was extensive and almost too difficult to choose from because it all sounded fantastic. Myself and 3 others decided to forego starters and plumped for the Kings platter- this ended up being a mountain of rice and couscous with plentiful supply of many different... More

What's not to love? Fabulous food at great prices, extremely welcoming staff, you never feel rushed (even at busy periods) and BYOB.

A fast walk from the hotel up to the restaurant as we thought it might rain...a warm friendly welcome as we arrived. Lovely mix of people in there, groups of friends, couples, families all enjoying the cosy atmosphere. We chose the taster menu for 2 as we're not sure what to choose from the menu and thought that would be... More

I visited Hanams on Saturday night with my girlfriend, and we were treated to a fantastic meal. The decor is lovely, and the staff were very friendly and attentive without being in-your-face. We had the set meal for two and it was delicious and very filling, and the Arabic coffee is to die for! We will definitely be returning next... More

Kurdish/Iranian cuisine w/ twists og Turkey and India (and quite possibly a few other cuisines) in healthy sizes made for sharing and laughs. If the sun's out you want to sit outside, but if it's raining don't worry; the inside is just as good. Quite comprehensive menu - you'll find all the 'classics' and a few with a spin. Freshly... Good location, OK decor, decent service. We ordered the meal for 4 and although there was a lot of it it was filled with lots of rice. Meat was ok- everything was seasoned nicely. I would say overall it was nice but nothing outstanding

Food here is always delicious. I can eat here everyday. The service was a little slow though. Many times we had to go find a waiter because there was no one to help us. It was a birthday party and when the cake came out the waiter did not think then to provide knife so we sat for a while... More

Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern Restaurant and if you think that's a mouthful, wait until you see what on offer! Voted one of Britain's Top 5 Middle Eastern Restaurants by the Telegraph, owner Ahmed ensures the personal touch, by being there seven days a week to offer advice and banter. The menu offers starters such as falafel and baba ghanoush, main courses that include Kurdish pizzas, vegetarian casseroles and halal meat dishes, such as Kurdish-style lamb biryani. There are also a selection of shish kebabs and desserts. Three courses from this banquet-like menu will cost an average of just £20 per person. And, if you're so inclined, you can even smoke a traditional hookah after your meal.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
