Really enjoyed my dinner here. My husband and myself got the chargrilled kabobs which were excellent! Only thing alittle strange was the owner(?) was constantly on his cellphone bouncing around the front area doing nothing. At one point he sat at the table next to us and talked very loudly on his cellphone for half of our meal.

Just off the Royal Mile and close to the Castle - ideal for the Stereophonics gig. Fantastic food and very fast service from friendly staff. The lamb was cooked to absolute perfection and the atmosphere, the smells and the borek took me back to my holiday! It is a dry restaurant but that didnt bother us in the slightest, we... More

We visited the place just before the Simply red concert in Edinburgh Castle. We didn't book but was given a table as long as we were out by 7pm. We order 2 veggie dishes, the aubergine in tomato sauce and spinach with coriander, both came with rice. Both dishes came lukewarm, one was very salty and for £11.50 each I... More

Hadn't booked as we were unsure of our exact arrival time but were given a table for one hour. Unfortunately this meant we had to rush our food, even though the service was quick. We enjoyed our starters, although felt that they were a little on the expensive side. Main courses were lovely and accompanied by delicious freshly-made bread. It... More

We had an amazing meze lunch with a large group (5) while the restaurant was quite crowded. Despite a huge party of more than 20 showing up, service was still good, and we were overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of the food. This was a very worthwhile lunch stop after a visit to Edinburgh Castle, and I will look... More

Being invited to Hanam during my short stay in Edinburgh, I was impressed by the extensive menu and the oriental decoration of the restaurant. The perfectly crafted Hummus, smoky baba ganoush, the hot cheese Borek pastry and the freshly made naan in the oven offered an excellent cold/hot appetiser. I chose Tapsi as my choice for the main dish. The... More

Description
Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern Restaurant and if you think that's a mouthful, wait until you see what on offer! Voted one of Britain's Top 5 Middle Eastern Restaurants by the Telegraph, owner Ahmed ensures the personal touch, by being there seven days a week to offer advice and banter. The menu offers starters such as falafel and baba ghanoush, main courses that include Kurdish pizzas, vegetarian casseroles and halal meat dishes, such as Kurdish-style lamb biryani. There are also a selection of shish kebabs and desserts. Three courses from this banquet-like menu will cost an average of just £20 per person. And, if you're so inclined, you can even smoke a traditional hookah after your meal.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
