Took 7 members of my family to the Kitchin for an adventuresome and scrumptious meal. As is typical of any Michelin restaurant the best advice is to follow the chef’s lead with a tasting menu. However I could not convince more than three members of...my family to do so. After a letter to Tom, the chef and owner, received permission from Tom to have 3 on a tasting menu and 4 on the ala carte menu. Most of my family are not adventuresome eaters and they agreed to this meal to humor Grandma. We were there for 5 hours. Every entree was shared. We had cocktails and a standard and an elite wine pairing menu. A wine pairing is plenty to share. The sweetbreads were delicious. The signature scallop baked in the shell was worthy of ordering two as an entree. My daughter is still dreaming of it. The wagyu tartare was scrumptious. Service was terrific. The only negative was from the two that were ordering ala carte with the pork belly. They voted it was too fat and too salty, but the rest of the table enjoyed it and it didn’t go to waste. Service was impeccable until desserts where I think things got a little backed up in the restaurant. So grandma’s goal was to expand palates and it was achieved with gusto. Even my pickiest eaters tried many dishes and enjoyed them. I would love to return, but another trip to Scotland for dinner only is probably unrealistic. There is a 10% service fee which seemed inadequate for our 5 hour stay and a party of 7. But when I asked to increase it the waiter informed me there was a 10% fee included. I thanked him for the information and told him I felt that was inadequate for our experience and please to include the additional tip. Highly recommend. Maybe I should go back for a dining adventure and visit Tom’s other restaurants as well.More

We went to The Kitchin on Thursday August 3rd for my first visit. We each had the Surprise Tasting Menu and I had the wine pairing. We were seated immediately on arrival. Although, this is a Michelin starred restaurant, the atmosphere was relaxed. For each...course the servers gave us a detailed description of what we were eating, and recommended how best to enjoy each one. Chef Kitchin welcomed us at the beginning and he came over to us for the scallops dish, explaining how this course was prepared while we were enjoying the previous course. Every dish was so enjoyable, and the jus that accompanied each dish, was absolutely divine. The sommelier was animated and clearly enjoys his job. You couldn't help but be interested in each wine based on his descriptions. He invited me to Romania and Georgia, amongst other countries, with his chosen wines and these are countries whose wines I will now look out for in future. I have nothing critical to say about this night out. The food was beautiful and the staff were nothing but most attentive and helpful. I can't wait to go back.More

Overall, it was a fantastic meal from start to finish. A couple of minor, and I mean minor points. When water is poured, not enough care and attention and glass was missed and water poured on the table, nor cleared up after. Very minor point....But not what is expected from Michelin Star Restaurant. Costs overall are much higher than previous visits. I understand pressures on hospitality, but would make me think again about choices. Highlights. Sweetbreads were outstanding, as we're the Ceps on the wagyu dish. Wagyu... I know I know king of beef etcetera... but.. for the size of it... it was nice. But the red wine sauce and Cep tasted way better.More

My family and I had an unforgettable dining experience at The Kitchin by Tom Kitchin. We opted for the set menu with wine pairing, and it was outstanding. The dishes were true masterpieces, bursting with flavor and creativity. The wine pairings were spot-on, enhancing each...course. The service was exceptional, and the ambiance was elegant yet comfortable. We can't wait to return for more culinary delights! Visited: July 2023.More

The food is exceptional. I salute the kitchen staff with all my heart. Each plate well arranged, food quality and experience TOP. Wine list and sommelier excellent. The reason for no 5 stars is we had 2 smelly (BO) servers and the decoration and lighting...needed to be corrected. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.More

Had the surprise menu with the standard wine pairing. The food was really excellent. The scallops was among the best I ever had and the other dishes were also top notch. The standard wine pairing was OK. Most wines were acceptable with one exception to...the negative. It is probably a better idea to go with the premium vine pairing. The service started of as you expect from a restaurant rewarded with a star from guide Michelin. Unfortunately as the restaurant became more busy the service degraded to unacceptable levels. Actually this is the first time I have become really disappointed of the service at a restaurant in this category.More

One of my first Michelin starred restaurants. Beautiful restaurant and great location. Overall the meal was very good and worth the accolades. One item that really miffed me was that they charged for still water. When asked at the beginning of the meal whether our...group wanted sparkling or still water, we replied still water having no idea that they charge for bottles of still water which were poured out of non labelled bottles, so in essence this could have very easily been tap water they were charging for. We should have been tipped off when they asked if we wanted another bottle of water. We said sure, again, not knowing they were charging us for it. We drank almost $80 in water. You would think at such a restaurant they would offer free still water. Otherwise the meal was fantastic and the service was good. I would recommend, but ask for tap water...More

We came from London on a business trip . ( we are an owners of a small wine boutique in Shoreditch) and definitely wanted to explore Edinburgh dining culture. After a bit of research we have chosen Kitchin. Main point in decision making was a...very creative wine list and a “ nature to plate” philosophy. We have not been disappointed at all- place is amazing, food is delicious and very creative and super fresh! Chef himself was friendly and presented the dishes. Somelier surprised us- when we asked for a Georgian Qvevri wine - he found a beautiful bottle of Orgo - Georgian Qvevri wine in his cellar. Food and wine pairing was exceptional! We shall be back - definitely! Highly recommend!More

We had been planning on going here a while and were really looking forward to it and it did not dissapoint us. The food was outstanding we ate literally everything that came. The best dish was definately the scallops baked in the shell was one...of the best things i have tasted. I liked not knowing what came next and it just appearing once it was ready. As with most tasting menus it is never cheap but the quality and cooking was brillant. Staff were also fab from start to finish, not often i go somewhere and stool for my bag appears! loved the little touches.More

Celebrating our godson's PhD graduation from St Andrews University required something special .. and The Kitchen totally delivered. From the pre-dinner welcome from Tom Kitchin himself, to the top-notch service and outstanding g food, this wA a very special evening. A Culinary highlight, to be...remembered forever, with pleasure, The food was excellent, and the staff outstanding. They made good recommendations for wines by the glass for all four of us, and managed the potentially tricky balance of being fun and knowledgeable without overstepping the line. Ultimately, the food was simply marvellous .. delicious, beautiful and just clever enough. Sadly we live half a world away so the chances of a return are slim ... but this celebration dinner was simply perfect in every regard.More

What a fabulous experience! The staff were incredibly accommodating even before the visit, and Charli-Max made sure our requests could be fulfilled. Franco was friendly and so knowledgeable about each dish, as were the other staff who explained what each magnificently executed dish was comprised...of, we were all very impressed. Joel did a wonderful job as the sommelier, he made us feel welcome and never condescended to us as rather uninitiated patrons which was lovely. Everything was relaxed and very chilled out, despite staff adhering to coordinated serving rituals and the absolutely phenomenal dishes! It was amazing, and we can’t thank you enough for the scallop dish, which was a firm favorite with all of us! Wow! Thanks again for a lovely experience, we are sad Tom wasn’t in but this just means we’ve got to come back someday! Thanks again!More

From start to finish our visit to The Kitchin was a delight. The little map of where the produce came from gave us a journey of the food we were about to eat. We chose to have the prestigious surprise tasting menu of five courses...plus appetisers and pre-desserts. Each mouthful was a delight. Living near Copenhagen we have been to Geranium several times and appreciate the concept of making food from local ingredients. The creative attention that Tom and his team show the ingredients at The Kitchin, showcases the best of what Scotland has to offer. Amazing flavours and artful unpretentious plating. A true delight to eat there. A special thank you to the amazing sommelier and the professional friendly staff. We cannot wait to return.More
