We enjoyed a nice early meal at La Garrigue after a theatre visit. Friendly service and really authentic French dishes. Both the rabbit dish and the duck and sausage dish were delicious. Good choice of wines by glass, caraf or bottle. All good.

What a discovery! Lovely Languedoc food and wines without pretension but with a lot of care. I intended to write this review on my return from a weekend reunion with some old friends from Germany but I forgot, although the good memories are still fresh....More

Myself and wife visited La Garrigue on a cold winters night and were immediately warmed by the amazing reception atmosphere and service. I had the fish soup to start followed by the fish special - honestly the best seafood I have ever tasted - cooked...More

I have eaten at La Garrigue frequently through the years. Right now standards are as high as they have ever been. Last night I had the Mediterranean fish soup with the recommended fish dish of the day - with a glass or two of Viognier....More

We were a group of 12 in an otherwise empty restaurant so the slow arrival of the starter was disappointing. Food was good when it arrived and the wine excellent. The one letdown was being advised by the head waiter that the other couple present...More

Outstanding bistro just two minutes from Edinburgh Waverley station. We called in for a lunch at midday as we had a bit of time while waiting to meet a family member from a train. We were greeted warmly, the decor and ambience were pleasant and...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

The restaurant in Jeffrey Street is only about 150 metres to the Junction where the Royal Mile/High St. starts . It is also only a little further downhill to the rear entrance of Waverley Station.

Close to the Royal Mile, La Garrigue is a low-key yet chic French restaurant in the buzzing heart of Edinburgh city centre. Smart hyacinth and white-panelled walls strike a stylishly understated tone, with simple wooden seating and bright windows offering views over Carlton Hill. Cuisine is similarly deceptively rustic, specialising in signature dishes from the rural Languedoc region of southern France heartened by deft modern cooking.
