We booked a table as the place gets very full. We were lucky enough to time our visit so we could see the Military Tattoo fireworks from the castle at 1030pm. Unfortunately we were 5 minutes late for our reservation however this wasn't an issue. The staff were friendly and attentive. For starters we ordered the squid salad, alongside bread... More

Visited with colleagues and was very impressed. They had a fantastic selection of affordable wines. Two of my party had steaks and two of us had the lobster. The lobster was really big and meaty considering it was only £22! Thoroughly enjoyed it; tremendous aioli with it as well! Staff were nice and coped well given the busyness of the... More

Saw the lunchtime 12 to 5pm menu and was shocked at how reasonably priced it was for a place in the centre of Edinburgh. I didn't have time to eat then but when I met my friends on the following Sunday lunchtime I told them about it but expected the offer to just be a weekday thing but was pleasantly... More

Enjoyed a relaxing meal, at a window table. Seating a little shabby but still fairly comfortable. Good menu with lots of choices, particularly recommend the belly pork. Decent drinks menu and Reasonably priced

We came across this restaurant by chance while wandering around Edinburgh, peeped inside and saw a lovely spacious room with a great vista view at the back. Luckily though it was very busy and they had many reservations we were only two so we're given a table almost immediately. The building is clearly old and full of character but has... More

We were a group of 7 during the evening after a fringe show. We were so glad that we had booked a table as it was jumping. We opted for main courses & a few had space for pud. 2 were on veggie options which were extremely good. Steaks not really for those who like it well done but chips... More

The earliest we could get a reservation was 9.15, but we'd had a busy day so didn't mind eating late-ish. The restaurant itself has a great ambience, and it was a good place for a leisurely mea. It was noisy, so conversation was difficult to begin with, but as the evening wore on, and tables cleared, it became much easier.... More

We booked on a recommendation but during the Festival it is probably best avoided. The staff are clearly overstretched - it was slow and various bits of our order did not arrive. We must have been served by five people over the 90 minutes we were there. The quality of cooking did not match the imaginative menu.

We went as a group of 8 during fringe for dinner. I had my eye on this restaurant for a while and it didn't disappoint. The food was amazing, the wine was fantastic and all round was a brilliant experience, all for £35 per head. Would highly recommend!

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
