This is a great find as it is near my office, just behind Waverley station and has a great wine list. I come here often with friends and we easily demolish a bottle of red with their delicious antipasti - simple.

Tried different dishes. Not speedy service. Food was ok, but not special at all. Pretty salty in some cases.

Went here with friends for some drinks and was initially impressed that Ryan questioned our sobriety as we were laughing and generally very happy! Having confirmed that we were indeed sober & just having fun-he reluctantly served us! Thereafter he was extremely rude - his attitude was appalling and he was clearly looking for an argument when we asked why... More

Happened upon the restaurant when looking for dinner. Excellent service and food. Great selection of wines and lovely atmosphere to hide from a rainy evening.

Food was average, tending toward dry. Service was kind of slow, with no follow up to a negative response on the table check. Disappointed after reading the reviews.

The service here is very good and the waiters were very friendly. Myself and another at my table ordered duck mains but the duck was slightly overdone for our liking. Apart from that it was nice but I would also recommend ordering some sides with your main meal as mine was quite small so I had to 'borrow' some of... More

Stopped here for a lunch on a Friday afternoon. I had the daily catch and my partner enjoyed a selection of dishes. The meatballs were amazing! Great selection of wines were available. Service was quick and very friendly.

I really nice "pub" atmosphere with a regional menu. Not much for the vegetarian but the eggplant parm Scottish style option was quite good. My dining companions dined on mussels, bream, trout and prawns... no complaints and plates were licked clean, so I guess that's a good review! Serving staff?... helpful and friendly,... prices?... quite reasonable.. and in an 8... More

I met my friend here for a glass of wine and snacks/lunch one afternoon. I love the location, just off the beaten path of Princes Street, down a side street. The view out of the window seat was of beautiful old stone buildings. Being that I'm from America, this is wonderful. I love the vibe of this place, and it... More

This small wine restaurant is always packed. Reservations are essential unless you don't mind waiting. I went twice and also stopped by an additional time during the day to make a dinner reservation. The restaurant offers a great selection of upscale food that was not overly expensive. The food menu nicely complimented the wine. The only negative was that the... More

Description
We served the finest, freshest local seafood along side some of the best wines the planet has to offer. As well as food & wine, the restaurant is famous for its ambience, atmosphere and warm welcome and our love of food is only matched by our love of music. Blues, jazz folk, wherever the mood take us. Trains have been missed & plans have been changed as people who come in for a quick glass of wine often end up spending the rest of the night with us. Forget where your going at Ecco Vino. Ching-Ching!

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
