Went in about 9.30 after a meal, were told we couldn't be served because we'd had too many, which was a completely false accusation. Turns out their plumbing was broken and they were making excuses. Very rude.

After a very intense trip from Marrakesh I took my partner here on our way home for what I thought would be a quite and nourishing and romantic meal. I got the smallest piece of over cooked seabreem imaginable on a giant plate full of roasted potatoes and a wee salad for £13. This place used to be great and... More

Ate dinner at Ecco Vino and the food was very good if slightly pricey. Restaurant staff were pleasant and efficient. The restaurant is small and was packed (with people being turned away). Recommend hopeful diners make a reservation.

In Edinburgh found this great restaurant in Cockburn St runs off Royal Mile. I was travelling solo and made welcome. Cheese board is a meal in itself.

What a fantastic restaurant, ate here two nights ago and my husband said that the mussels were the best meal he had had in a year. You could not fault the service or food, highly recommend it. Maybe I need some cooking lessons now.

Maybe just an off night, but we had a poor experience. Waitress was very rude and tried to argue with us when we returned a bottle of wine after being poured a sample to taste. Really, I have never come across that and almost comical when the results of the taste are just argued by the waitress. Food order then... More

Hi Mike, thanks for taking the time to write the review. I am so sorry to hear about the poor service you had. We really do pride ourselves on excellent customer service and so to hear what happened is really disappointing. Do you remember the date and the rough time you were in the restaurant? I look forward to hearing... More

We had a variety of small plates and enjoyed them thoroughly! Our server was wonderful; she was very insightful on the menu, wine and scotch.

Wandered past this place during the day and decided it looked great for dinner. Really good menu and very reasonably priced. Great ambience and the service was lovely. Highly recommend to anyone in the area, it won't disappoint.

Surf n Turf comes with perfect glazed pork belly, black pudding, sea scallops and BBQ prawns. An absolutely wonderful dish. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I'm a bit sceptical about the pricing of the blackboard specials... a lobster ravioli with very little actual meat in the filling will set you back £25. But seriously, go n grab the surf n... More

Found this little restaurant quite by chance, and rather than trudge any further up the hill we settled at an outdoor table. Although a bit close to the road edge, and rather on a slope, the food more than made up for the slight inconvenience. A shared antipasto platter was more than enough, and the selection was varied and delicious.... More

We served the finest, freshest local seafood along side some of the best wines the planet has to offer. As well as food & wine, the restaurant is famous for its ambience, atmosphere and warm welcome and our love of food is only matched by our love of music. Blues, jazz folk, wherever the mood take us. Trains have been missed & plans have been changed as people who come in for a quick glass of wine often end up spending the rest of the night with us. Forget where your going at Ecco Vino. Ching-Ching!

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
