I have been a regular customer at Zest over many years and have always enjoyed it. Service is friendly and efficient and the food is excellent. One of the best Indian restaurants I have eaten in anywhere. Considering its city centre location, prices are very reasonable. I will continue to visit Zest frequently and highly recommend it.

The table we got was not at the same level. The food was very tasteless and not worth the prices charged. Very disappointed

Popped in for dinner while away with work and very impressed with the speedy service and friendly staff. My king prawn pathia was also superb! I will be back!

We booked for 7 people and I called ahead to check if it was ok if we were a little early. They confirmed that was fine. We turned up and were left waiting at the door for 15 mins. No drink offering, no explanation. Eventually we were lead to our table but there were not enough seats for the number... More

We are regulars to Zest when we are in Edinburgh for the summer and think it is the best! My favourite is the Sir Walter Scott lamb. Highly recommend it. Try the prawn puri as a starter as well. We always get great flavours, good portion sizes and great service.

Don't understand the negative reviews of this restaurant, food, location, cleanliness and decor are excellent, and for a city centre restaurant, prices are very reasonable. Will certainly visit again.

I recently returned to this restaurant and was again impressed. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, the prices are great and the service is lovely! It is a lovely quieter restaurant which is perfect in the middle of a loud and busy city. Would definitely recommend!

Description
Not your usual Bangladeshi Indian restaurant, Zest is smart and modern with a terrific menu combining classic and inventive dishes. The decor in this bright, airy, centre-of-town shopfront is clean and open, with white walls, blond chairs, contemporary styling. The menu includes dishes like starter of Zest's own tandoori trout, main course of medium-spicy Jaipuri chicken with fried mushrooms, onions and capsicums with Punjabi masala in thick sauce. Peshwari naan and bhajis are excellent. The service is hip and friendly and the wine list well matched to the flavours. And yes, there is chicken tikka masala, if you must, but this is a great place for exploring new flavours.

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
