Very relaxed atmosphere with very relaxed and pleasant staff which is nice to see in a Michelin Star restaurant. We chose the tasting menu with wine pairing and thoroughly enjoyed all our courses. The monkfish with squid and octopus was the highlight closely followed by...the guinea fowl and langoustine ravioli. The courses flowed well and the wine pairing arrived on queue each time. Great experience and I'd recommend this restaurant to others.More

If you seek culinary Paradise, Martin Wishart has created it for you. Every aspect of this carefully thought out experience is to be cherished. The staff are so welcoming and charming, especially the manager Paul who is like a friend. We both have dietary issues...and so the menu is customised to suit our needs. The someliers offer a range of wines which pair beautifully with each creation from the kitchen. There is no distracting background music, just the low murmur of conversation and appreciation by fellow diners. We usually spend three to four hours here over lunch till we feel we have to tear ourselves away to give the staff a break before evening service.More

The welcome was lovely, we felt very comfortable and relaxed as soon as we were seated. The seats are very comfortable and the table a good size. The decor in the room is restrained and understated , but it lets the food and the personality...of the staff shine. Talking of the staff, they were exemplary throughout. They had an outstanding knowledge of the menu and you could tell that they had tried every plate as they had their favourites and enthused about them. We tried the vegetarian and the meat tasting menu . ( there was no a la carte due to covid impact on staffing which seemed a common theme on our trip) We enjoyed every single dish I am not a vegetarian but wanted to try it and wasn’t disappointed. The emmental soufflé was a gorgeous cheese cloud ….. The sommelier was adorable and great fun with excellent recommendations that truly enhanced the evening. We had a fabulous evening overall and can’t wait to return.More

What can I say??? Before I even get to the food, I can honestly say that the staff were extremely kind and patient in terms of me trying to book a table! We had a Voucher which we received as a wedding present last year...and Martin wish art were kind enough to Extend it (on several occasions as it turned out due to Covid!). Anyway, we were just absolutely delighted to finally get a table and be in the gorgeous restaurant on what happened to be a dreadfully rainy afternoon in Edinburgh! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the staff were faultless- total professionals: knowledgable, discrete, astute and informative! Thank you so much to them 🤗🤗 as for the good, words fail me…… stunning stunning stunning….. from the seaweed butter and bread to the foie gras to the guinea fowl to the cheese to the stunning dessert….. just wow! And another wow!! Will be back….. even if no one gifts us a voucher 🤗🤗More

We arrived to be informed that Covid had caused half the staff to have to isolate. so everyone pulled together, waiting staff, the Sommelier, even the chefs to ensure the service was delivered .Food as always was interesting and fault,ESS but up it was the...connitment of the staff to deliver, along with Martin Wishart and his wife that made the meal special. We have visited many times but today confirmed that this is areal team effort. Thank you again for a wonderful meal.More

One of the most memorable meals of my life. In fact I have never experienced anything quite like it. The food was absolutely incredible, to the point where I could not speak about much else over dinner. Just fantastic. Visually stunning too. Pleasant location and...surroundings; Impeccable service.More

I was expecting more effort from kitchen and front house from Martin's established fine diner. Lunch @ £42.50 is Wednesday to Friday. The room is now looking rather airline 80's loungey. And most servers are new since restart. I hear chefs apply less often now...too. The paper napkin no table cover look sets one up for a lunch that must be priced out by an accountant! The appetizers, 4 in all were the highlight, skillful and interesting. "Tortellini of Borders Roe Deer, Fricassee of giroles and cabbage" styleish but bland. "Confit Duck Leg, French beans, artichoke & ponnmmes satees Lyonaise" underwhelming despite the French, sticky and sweet. The deserts a small token confection. For me lunch had similar enjoyment to a supermarket "Meal Deal".More

We thoroughly enjoyed this lunch. The food was almost faultlessly executed ( some very slightly undercooked gnocchi the only very minor criticism), with dishes of delicately balanced flavours beautifully presented. Service was good, but disjointed. For instance, our main course arrived immediately after the starter...was finished, even although we still had half a glass of the paired wine for the starter to finish. I suspect the staff were driven by the kitchen for timings, rather than by the customers, which should not happen at this level of dining, but may represent a new normal of kitchens with fewer staff in this changed world. The restaurant itself was very stylish, and did not feel empty as it had obviously been designed for about the number of tables it now has in COVID times. Thoroughly recommended.More
