I visited The Caffeine Drip South African café for breakfast with my brother during my holiday to Edinburgh. We had the French toast with banana and tomatoes, which tasted lovely. For drinks we had a chocolate milkshake with cream and a rolo drink. The presentation...More

Went with my daughter who is vegan and can’t eat gluten either and we had a sandwich. Now I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with vegan cafes but they do only sell vegan food what a refreshing change to find somewhere that does a great vegan...More

My husband and I have been caffeine drip fans since the place opened. Food is always excellent, portions generous, great coffee and the menu is huge so lots to choose from on each visit. We went yesterday for lunch and were not disappointed. Initially my...More

We visited Edinburgh with the kids but still managed a couples night out. Anyway, the french toast with maple sirrup and sausages was just the ticket after the wine the evening before. Well worth it and a good price for how stuffed we felt after....More

Don't let the shabby appearance put you off. An excellent cafe serving a great range of breakfast fare, cracking drinks and the cakes look good too. My cortardo was delicious. My wife's luxury porridge was wonderful. So much better than the run of the mill...More

I've been to the Caffeine Drip a bunch of times and they have never let me down on the vegan, gluten-free front. I'm still intimidated by the menu though, it is huge! You can spend a good while looking over it and picking something yummy....More

Went here for brunch over the weekend. Arrived just in time to be seated as guests turning up after us had to wait for a table - worth bearing in mind therefore that there may be a wait to be seated here. Service was good...More

West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in
industrial Britain had their most desirable
neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes.
Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest
citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind
grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel
crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and
sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along

Bringing a splash of South African colour to the very Edinburgh West End, the Caffeine Drip is as far away from bog standard cafés and dreary sandwich shops as you can get. All the food, including soups and cakes, is made from scratch using fresh ingredients in a kitchen many restaurants would envy. It shows too, with huge doorstep club sandwiches filled with spicy pulled pork and sour pickles while the boerewors rolls feature traditional South African beef and pork sausage made to an authentic recipe by a local butcher. The coffee's up to scratch too, impeccably sourced from Peru, Honduras and Ethiopia with Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and organic certification. The vegan and gluten-free options don't feel like an afterthought, and the breakfast menu is well worth checking out if you're looking for a venue for that pre-9am meeting.
