What a pleasant surprise to find such a nice wee Scottish pub after a lovely meal at the restaurant on the second floor . Very nicely decorated interior , which brings back nostalgic feeling to it . Well done ! and , cheap drinks too !!

Got lucky in that 10 of us went in here to have a drink and a sing song and there was 3 native folk singers with guitars already there. We didn't eat but made up for it in pints of Guinness and a great night had by all. great rappor between Irish and Scots.

Only popped in for a quick drink on our way to the new year celebrations as my missus needed to use the toilet. When our drinks came in dirty plastic containers slightly resembling glasses we left sharpish. The toilets were also shocking. No shortage of pubs in this area so go somewhere else.

very old fashioned, with small stools or chairs around tables, and the bar at one end but with shelves of books, mirrors, and other old fashioned items around. ( Tv up on wall in one corner ). Bartender seemed to be also serving in the Chinese takeaway next door ( but I may be mistaken with that ) - they... More

Popped in as it looked inviting from the outside. Nice wooden interior. Quite busy, so a nice atmosphere. Only had a drink, but very pleasant.

Found it by accident on the way to our hotel. It's a small local, with a good selection of beers and good service. There was live music there courtesy of a number of locals and we all joined in. Great night was had. We didn't have food there, so I can't comment on the food available.

We stumbled across this small bar . There were a few locals playing guitars & singing local & well known oldies. Great characters drink here who were very friendly. The bar had a great atmosphere. Felt like a step back in time. Ok prices for a city pub. We liked it so much we went back the next morning for... More

Probably the smallest pub I've visited, very quaint. Service was speedy and staff pleasant. Great pint of McEwans 80/-, really decent glass of Merlot. Can't wait to visit again

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
