We stopped for coffee and cake after a long day of sight seeing. There was such a wide selection to chose from. The cakes all looked delicious and we had a tough time choosing. In the end we had a very generously portioned Lemon Cheesecake that we very yummy.

Having fallen in love with turkish coffee in Istanbul, when we happened upon this authentic looking open air cafe we fortunately grabbed a seat with no hesitation. Excellent food (I had goat cheese salad) and coffee with a turkish delight treat. Hmm Hmm good! Very pleasant middle eastern surprise experience in old Scotland!

Although at the latter end of the Royal Mile (away from the castle) This pace was certainly popular as the filled tables indicated. My husband and great grandson enjoyed a filled pitta type bread whilst I tucked into a lovely bowl of hot home made soup. Delicious. Ice creams followed. They are known for their side salads and this was... More

For some reason, not a lot of places serve breakfast in the city. Cafe Truva does, and it's good and satisfying. We've been twice and would come again.

The cafe is at the end of the royal Mike away from the castle but is worth the walk. Good value, simple traditional Turkish good food in a pleasant environment. The meat eaters liked it and they're were a number of vegetarian options. For Edinburgh centre the prices were reasonable.

Walking up the Royal Mile, we saw the sign offering Turkish Coffee. Being partial to this coffee we thought we would stop for a quick shot. 9 in our party, the adults sat outside and ordered 5 Turkish Coffees (@ £3.95 each) and the children stood around outside and a couple of the younger ones sat with us, not wanting... While in Edinburgh we visited this little place twice. We had the dog so sat outside which is undercover. Enjoyed both meals. Staff were very pleasant and attentive.Great Pear Cheescake and Turkish Apple tea. Dishes are basic but fill a gap nicely. It's pricey for what you get but this is a city centre venue so it is to be... More

I stopped in here on a whim because I was hungry, and it ended up being a really pleasant surprise. I had low expectations since it's on the touristy Royal Mile, but the food was really excellent, the service was nice, and the price was reasonable. I had the couscous with vegetables, and it was delicious. I'd recommend this place,... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
