One would think it was impossible to go wrong here. A beautiful room and the promise of a great Afternoon Tea. We were wrong. When we asked for a change of one of the sandwiches there was an immediate issue, with the waitress telling us...only so many were made on the day. As it was only 2pm, apparently only the latter arrivals were given extras and we were only allowed one change. No more after that. It was well seen it was Scotland, living up to it's mean image. Other hotels offering this give you as many sandwiches as is wanted, after all you can only eat a certain amount. This was penny pinching at its worst. Can't blame the waitress who was only carrying out hotel policy. I persevered in asking for a couple more, and eventually we were given a couple of chicken ones. The scones were not great and it was difficult to regain the pleasant experience. We took the pastries back to our hotel in a box. It has to be said that the Battenberg was simply outstanding. However if they are griping about a couple of extra sarnies I would suggest trying elsewhere. It wasn't cheap.More
