I discovered the Skylark Cafe whilst walking through Stockbridge and was immediately charmed by its colourfull and cosy appearance. The lunch and Smoothie was fantastic. Friendly lady behind the counter and apparently there s a song circle class for young children and their parrents in the backroom. I am really interested in storytelling, singing and theatre for young children and... More

My sister, daughter and I popped in late afternoon for a coffee stop. We were greeted warmly by counter staff and decided to take the buggy and ourselves through to the back where it's really spacious. We ordered coffee, tea and cakes for a late afternoon treat at the counter and they were delivered to our table in a timely... More

Dropped in after a walk on the beach, not knowing the area at all. Lovely little place with delicious food. Had a lovely duck and plum salad and my boyfriend had a black pudding roll. The chips are the die for. Hidden gem.

So took two wee ones along to Skylark Cafe where Mum supports daughter on this dual venture. Daughter out front in the cafe. Mum in a cosy homely room at rear offering a Song Circle for little ones. Didn't use the cafe this time but have heard it serves very nice home baking. Song Circle was ideal. Very friendly, welcoming... More

I go to this cafe all the time with my 4 kids, they serve great coffee, home made cakes, healthy fresh juices and smoothies made to order. Lovely lunches like avocado on toast, home made soups and salads. The kids menu is good to with things like waffles and beans or toasties. The back room, which is open from 11.30... More

I visited with my family and we all found the service very lacking in warmth or friendliness. The manager/owner barely exchanged a word with us when she served us and we were not asked whether we had everything we needed or whether everything had been to our liking. Considering it worked out at nearly £9 a head for a drink... More

This is a nice little cafe with friendly staff and good coffee and food. A good selection of snacks too. More seating round the back so it's bigger than it seems.

This place is great for parents, especially for mums with small babies, where you can enjoy a cuppa while breastfeeding with complete comfort. There is a space at the back of the cafe that offers privacy for the likes of feeding, or generally just a space where you can sit and not worry about customers who do not have children... More

They make lovely soups and bacon rolls. A room at the back welcomes babies and toddlers for singing and fun from time to time. It has a gentle warm atmosphere. Terrific asset to the Stockbridge community. Oldies welcome too. Coffee excellent.

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighborhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighborhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
