Went as a group of four friends last night and so pleased that we have found this restaurant. We live in Edinburgh and will definitely be back. The food was beautiful and we all ate three courses and enjoyed a couple of bottles of wine. All in all bill around £35 each- great value as the food was delicious. You... More

My friend and I were meeting in Edinburgh after 31 yrs!- I wanted this to be good food . We both had west coast mussels followed by ravioli and salad - very tasty and filling , no room for dessert . My son joined us later and he thoroughly enjoyed lasagne . The food was a winner for me and... More

Went in by chance as we were passing. Excellent. Small, cosy, friendly. I had seafood lasagna and a side salad. Really enjoyed both and would have again. My husband had a steak. We agreed we will return next time we are in Edinburgh.

Having read the reviews I decided to try this place. Don't rush to follow my stupidly. We were placed at a table In a small back room which was strange as there were table available in the main front restaurant. Ordered the food with a woman who wasn't to pleasant. Food arrived nothing special, very basic and not tasty. Chips... More

I am not always a fan of Italian food, however the menu at Asti seems to have something for everyone. We had a very enjoyable Saturday lunch in the middle of a shopping trip. Comfortable restaurant, no rush or fuss, gave us some time away from all the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh city centre on a Saturday. Helpful, considerate... More

Nice wee Italian on broughton street. Reasonably priced and food was very tasty, I had rice croquettes for starter and gnocchi for main and both were delicious and decent portions. Could not fault the service. We went early in the new year on a Tuesday night so it was only us there so it wasn't a great atmosphere but I... More

Asti is a small place but they can really cook Italian food. All of our pasta dishes were wonderful and the calimari antipasto was some of the best. The staff was great and it was a wonderful evening. We highly recommend this restaurant, and for a reasonable price.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
