Visited this lovely Italian restaurant with a friend and we really had a lovely lunch here. I requested for a special order of Aglio Olio and they made it for me perfectly! My friend's lasagna taste good. This restaurant is around 20-minute walk from Royal Mile. This is actually near in the New Town of Edinburgh but, you will really... More

Stumbled upon here last week when I stayed in the Indigo hotel nearby, was greeted by a trio of Italians who were very welcoming to me and got me a seat straight away. Food was delicious as was the wine and the service could not be faulted. Was back in Edinburgh this week in a different location and I couldn't... More

Heard the hype, read the fantastic reviews and wasn't disappointed. Great service, good food and good selection of wines in a comfortable setting make this venue stand out. With a sense of inner charm and an unpretentious athmosphere I thoroughly enjoyed my experience from beggining to end.

We had been walking along the street and firstly had walked into the nearby but pretentious Educated Flea...empty but apparently fully booked. Upon leaving this near heaving mass of humanity we noticed Asti across the street. We walked in to find it busy but still endeavoured to find us a table, which they did. Thereafter we enjoyed beautiful breads, tappenades,... More

My partner and I had dinner here last week. We shared a prawn and calamari entree which was very tasty. He had the lasagne which was absolutely delicious. I had the gnocchi with bolognaise sauce. The bolognaise sauce was nice but sadly the gnocchi missed the mark and was quite heavy and hard. Service was quick and waiters friendly.

I ate breakfast in this restaurant, there is a good selection of options and everything we ordered (Italian Breakfast, and a Bagel) was very good.

Got caught out by regs such that having only drank two thirds of the wine, we weren't permitted to leave with the rest. Italian staff added to the experience, the warm room detracted. Good quality ingredients in the caprese salad and nicely prepared ricotta pancake starter. The special of lobster ravioli would benefit from an improved fish stock and less... More

Everything was perfect. The food, the prices and the service. It's funny that you get better Italian food in Scotland than in Italy.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
