sushi was good for local standards, else just above average. not a lot of choice but what is on the menu is solid and tasty. value for money is very low, i found it extremely overpriced for what it was. mind you i dont mind spending a lot on good food. service was very disappointing. it took over 15-20 minutes... Went to Kanpai at lunchtime and was met with smiling staff who could not help enough. We had a idea of what we wanted but waiter helped with advice and between us managed to have the best sushi meal. Food can be seen being made for you and is so fresh, if you like sushi or never had it before... More

I have never been to a sushi restaurant before and was a bit hesitant about whether I would like it or not. However I really enjoyed my meal here. The food was delicious and was served quickly. I would throughly recommend the tempura prawns and the squid rings. The waitress was also very helpful helping me choose a dish that... More

Most delicious sushi, very reasonably priced and beautiful views of Edinburgh castle. The service is top notch and the same is to die for!

The food was excellent especially the seared tuna in homemade miso sauce, however, this is one of those times as I often do with sushi I was left feeling hungry, which is why I only gave it four stars. The sushi portions are quite small and expensive for their size. The food was good and the atmosphere is nice, so... More

The miso soup that we had to start was perhaps the most flavoursome that we have ever tasted. We then had Teppan sirloin, tempura squid, King prawn tempura, rainbow roll, soft shell crab roll, seared tuna with homemade miso dressing and sliced red beef, accompanied by a Chateau Maugny Cabernet D'anjou 2014 rosé wine. We finished off with creamy green... More

We went to Kanpai recently and sat at the Sushi Bar, we enjoyed watching the chef's work their magic behind the bar. The food itself is stunning, lovely veggie sushi, the best seaweed salad & soba noodles. The sake is also delicious and well worth trying. All in all, a great meal which was good value for money.

Having read some good reviews, my boyfriend and I decided to book a table at Kanpai during our weekend in the city. We were not disappointed. Being big sushi-lovers, we have eaten at some of the best sushi/Japanese restaurants in London and can honestly say that this is on par with many of them. The food was all absolutely delicious... Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
