I went here for my wife's 30th with a group of friends, I was so impressed with the range of dishes not just sushi, the staff were friendly and even put up with us after a few too many sakis. The place has a great atmosphere, I'll be back

I treated myself to lunch on Friday and was not disappointed! I'll definitely be back soon with a larger group so I can try more of their fabulous food. Being Australian I'm used to great Japanese food and lots of places to find it. This means I'm very critical. Kanpai had been recommended by a friend and I'm so happy... More

We never knew this hidden Japanese restaurant until our friends recommended to go. We were welcomed by friendly staff . We dont have high expectation eating great japanese food, but here.... it was delicious ! The sushi was yummy but the Tempura , and fried bean curd was amazing. I also liked the interior. We will definately come back again... More

The service was nice. But he food was decent, but rather bland for what was expected. Lacks atmosphere.

Walked past this place last night and almost missed it, me and my wife went In without a reservation the waitress said we could eat but had to be quick because they were fully booked and were expecting someone soon, so we took the opportunity. The waiting staff were all very attentive and the sushi was absolutely delicious at reasonable... More

Japanese decor (naturally) with a modern touch, clean and without pretense. A good variety of starters with the seared tuna a personal favourite. Sushi was thoughtfully presented, uncomplicated, and enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere. Service minimalistic.

Found this little gem by chance and boy we were happy. We even managed to secure a walk in on a busy Saturday night. Myself and my friend loved the ambience and food. Sushi was not only scrumptious to eat but very appealing to the eyes too. I can't wait to be back and sit at the chefs table. Highly... More

Had dinner with my frds at Kanpai Sushi tonight... we asked a member of staff Michael to recommend some dishes for us and he recommended some to us patiently and sincerely. Therefore, we ordered deep-fried salmon sushi, aubergine, rainbow roll, dragon roll as recommended and they are all delicious. Besides, we also ordered tempura and Tokyo rolls. They are tasty... The best sushi in Scotland. The service is wonderful, and the restaurant has a very relaxed and clean decor. The go-to restaurant for a special meal out with my husband. You can sit for hours drinking sake and ordering sushi, which arrives as and when it is ready. We have been going for years and will continue to visit regularly.

Easily the best Japanese restaurant in Edinburgh. Friendly staff, quick service and all at a fair price.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
