Fantastic venue for breakfast. They meet one of the great culinary challenges .. To make the perfect poached egg and their American pancakes ain't too bad either... ambience and service excellent . Not to be missed when visiting Edinburgh

A must to sit and enjoy a good breakfast. A great deal of choice, from the Full breakfast to the light and healthy bite for the more fussy eaters. It is worth getting there quite early to avoid the masses as we found a lot of people had to wait a short while to get a table (not sure if... More

We visited Loudons twice over a weekend visit to Edinburgh both times for breakfast. Our party contained 8 of us ranging from ages 28 - 83 yrs. this is a very busy and popular restaurant and caters for all food preferences. Two of our party were vegan and one ate glutton free food only and the menu contains as much... More

The Union Canal runs from Edinburgh to Glasgow and the towpath is a pleasant walking path used by many in Edinburgh. Very near the beginning of the towpath is Loudon's Cafe and Bakery and we had three meals there on a recent trip before taking morning walks. Breakfast options are large and we enjoyed them all, especially the French toast.... More

A laid back family place for lunch/brunch. If you like Oz/Nz cuisine you will like this.. the food is like beach cuisine. Their Eggs Benedict (four varieties) are the best I've had since 2012 in Perth, Australia. Lovely runny eggs on a nicely cooked muffin That beat those I've had in the USA between 2013 and 2016 (since NY is... More

Hi and thank you! This review was a pleasure to read for a number of reasons but none more so than reading that you rated our Eggs Benedict's as better than in the US. We love the reference to Oz/NZ food due to brunch becoming the most popular meal of the day here, just like it is 'Down Under'. We... More

We had a family breakfast here one Sunday morning, and were not disappointed. We had to queue for a bit, but a packed restaurant is always a good sign. We all had efferent things, but I had the scrambled eggs with Scottish smoked salmon, toast and coffee. It was perfect. Looking forward to gong back.

Hi there, Thank you very much for your review, it's great to hear that we appeal to families just as much as we do to couples or large groups! One of my American nephews was visiting and so I took him and my two Edinburgh nieces to breakfast at Loudons. I've visited Loudons on many previous occasions but never for breakfast. It was a very pleasant experience with good and attentive service. Everyone had the full breakfast except myself. I opted for the eggs benedict... which was excellent. Loudons... More

Hi there, Thank you for this review, it reads fantastically and it will be a pleasure to feed this back to the rest of the team. Our restaurant design takes from a large pool of influences but we have never been compared to the Argentinian '"Confiterias" but we see the similarity for sure. It's great to hear you enjoyed your... More

We decided to stop here for Sunday brunch before flying back to London and what an excellent choice it was even though we had a 10 min wait for a table. Loudons are proud of the fact they have a lot on offer for those who prefer to be gluten-free or vegan. But for those of you 'normal' eaters, don't... More

Description
We are an independent family run and family friendly cafe and bakery. Freshly made is our hallmark....everything is made daily including soups, salads, quiches, pizza, bread and cakes.
Uncompromising in our coffee beans supplied by Artisan Roast and our loose leaf teas from Pekoe Tea.

We serve up one of the best breakfasts and all day Weekend brunches in town and are famed for our Eggs Benny.

We feel that customers with food intolerances should not have to put up with bland choices and pride ourselves in creating interesting and tasty cakes, bread, soups etc. that can be enjoyed by vegans, vegetarians and coeliacs alike.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
