We have just enjoyed an absolutely splendid long weekend in Scotland with friends to make our first visit to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo which was truly magnificent. However prior to entering the Castle we took time to take a meal on route up George IV...More

Visited the Villager on Saturday 12th August with friends and ordered food, some 20 minutes no food had arrived so I checked with one of the staff, she couldn't find the order and went down to the kitchen to find out where the order was,...More

This used to be such a great place, now the service is slow (1 hour+ for food for 6 people) and the dishes aren't interesting. Cocktails used to be excellent but now seem to be inconsistent.

Villager is a lovely looking place with some fine ales - the apple ale in particular is a winner. However, to echo other reviewers - the food service is abysmal. A shame, because the staff are so upbeat and positive, despite clearly knowing things aren't...More

Let's start with the food. The two burgers we ordered were good. Not excellent. The sides were all awful and it probably stems from the poor staff. We made a simple order for two burgers, wedges and onion rings. We waited for ONE HOUR and...More

Took 45 mins for nachos and fries. Had to chase it and still wait another 15 mins. "Skinny fries" were fat chips and "Black bean chilli" nachos were in fact tasteless quorn without a bean in sight. When waitress asked the VERY young kitchen staff...More

Nice place, comfortable seats. Small menu. But good portions. Sofas was nice to relax after walking tour that ended at Greyfriars Kirk

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

The Villager has been recommended several times on the Ediburgh forum it is a great place for food and drinks. I did visit it during my last visit to Edinburgh and really want to add my review.
