We were lucky to book a table here about and hour and half before we were due to eat. All the staff wore masks and did the track and trace. I had a bowl of the cullen skink, I thought it was a bit expensive for the size, but was tasty. I had the shakshuka, which was very nice and very filling, my husband had the beetroot burger and fries, and again very nice. We were took full for a dessert, but had coffee, which was served in tea cups and I thought it was a little expensive at £3, and we were charge 75p for the oat milk, as they only other milk was full fat.

Hi there and glad to hear you enjoyed evrything. Extra charge for oat milk is due to it currently being twice the price of regular milk so hope you don't think unnecessary? The skink does look smaller due to the shape of bowls we use but the reason you were too full (for dessert) is the portion is in fact larger than what it looks! Hope to see you back again soon:)

Booked Sunday lunch and as usual it was mobbed. On this occasion we had the smashed avocado and my wife had French toast with bacon. Both substantial. Greedily we also had a bowl of Cullen Skink each. They do a lovely cappuccino with strands of dark chocolate on top. But it is the cheery staff that makes this place. There is no service charge so tip well as staff are brilliant.

Had lunch there today. The booking system is really straightforward, and everything was totally clear in the email. There is a very efficient one way system in place. As ever, the staff were lovely- and are CONSTANTLY cleaning their hands. Each time any staff member went past a hand sanitiser unit, they used it, and they were all wearing face masks. The covid precautions didn’t impede the warm and friendly atmosphere in the slightest. As ever, the food was brilliant. The only downside with the menu is that I wanted to eat everything. The Roseleaf is one of those places where if you have any dietary restrictions, it makes no difference- the menu covers it. This means it is a grand place for everyone to visit. One of the group I was with uses walking sticks, and has hearing aids. The staff took this into account without making any song and dance about it. I can happily say that the Roseleaf is the most inclusive, best menu-ed, nicest staffed, covid safe place I have been to in 2020.

Many, many thanks for your amazing review. It really peps us up when people notice the details and so chuffed the food hit the spot with all your group too! Upside of enhanced washing hands is we all have very well insulated skin for carrying those hot plates!!! We hope to see you back again soon!

We visited twice during our weeks stay in Leith, once for the 'teapots' of cocktails and once for brunch. Both experiences were good. Service was friendly and attentive on each occasion. The cocktails were delicious and served in a pot to pour into bone china cups which is different! But the brunch was outstanding. I had the brioche french toast with bacon and syrup and this was delicious but too much for me to finish. My daughter had the full breakfast served in a skillet and also commented on how tasty everything was. Fruit juices were freshly squeezed.

We tried Roseleaf for brunch and were greeted by a pleasant waiter who seated us no bother, even though they were busy. He was really polite and helpful throughout our visit. I ordered the french toast and bacon. It was fine. The portion of bacon was generous but the dish was just pretty basic. A small side portion of something to liven it up a bit would’ve been nice? It was £9.95 which I think is really steep for two pieces of bread, bacon and some maple syrup. The bar is quirky, staff great and menu had lots on it that sounded exciting. I’ll definitely return to give other things a try!

Hope to see you back and please consider that all bread is homemade, there is at least 3 - 4 eggs in the mix as well as seasoning & cream. Also grade 'A' maple syrup ain't cheap these days and as you mention, the bacon portions are healthy! So hope you see where the cost goes and glad you'll be back to try some more.

I visited The Roseleaf today for the first time with a friend.. We were greeted at the door by a friendly young lady, asked to sanitise our hands and shown to our table. The service was excellent, very relaxed but attentive and helpful. I ordered the eggs benedict with smoked bacon, it was fabulous, everything was fresh and perfectly cooked. I then had the chocolate brownie with coconut ice cream and toasted coconut.. Well what can I say, it was sublime..👌🏼 We will definitely return as we were really impressed by the relaxed, friendly atmosphere, the exceptional service and the fabulous food..

We came here for brunch on Tuesday and what a great place it is. Food is imaginative and very tasty with generous portions. Fresh orange juice was great and loved the delicate cups and saucers for coffee. Decor is quirky and welcoming and the staff were really helpful when we had questions about the hot sauces on sale and other recommended places to eat in the area. We will definitely be back. Oh, and loved reading the old magazine articles on the walls in the toilets - remember some of them from way back.

Dropped in after visiting the nearby Royal Yacht Brittania and what a gem. Chilled atmosphere, helpful staff and a lovely menu. I enquired about the possibility of swapping a dressing on a food option and an alternative was very quickly offered. Food was delicious.

Found this lovely place on an afternoon of exploring Leith. Didn’t book but were taken to a table with a bench to lay our baby on and high chair for our toddler. Kids menu has a range to suit different ages instead of the usual sausage and chips! We were given toddler cutlery and cup, and the disabled toilet was suitable for little people too, including baby changing. Adults were not disappointed either, a huge selection of drinks to choose from (literally something for everyone; hot, cold, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The beer choice was pretty impressive) and an inspiring menu. We had the skunk (fish, potato and leek soup, with home made bread very nice!) and rose leaf burger, followed by tropical trifle. Lady serving us even pointed us in the direction of a park for our little one when we left. The staff are what makes a place, even when the food is nice it’s the friendliness and little touches that make somewhere memorable, hence taking the time to write a review.

Thank you so much for taking the time to notice the finishing touches and the staff say thank you too! However, I do have to say we don't serve skunks (they are too smelly:) Cullen Skink though by the bucket loads!!! Hope to see you again soon :)

Love the Roseleaf, visit regularly However, felt the need to give feedback after our last 3 visits for a Sunday roast. The chef tends to drown the plate with an over-reduced thickened gravy (not a jus as advertised, more like powdered veal stock). Everyone felt it spoiled the dinner, particularly as it was chicken. Hopefully this is constructive and taken onboard, otherwise my advice would be to ask for it separately!

Thanks so much for letting us know. Our stock pot is reduced over the week and that stock should be lengthened depending on what we're using it for. It's super concentrate and all homemade. Just very thick & very strong which is why it should be lengthened to taste. Sorry we whoopsiedooed and appreciate you letting us know👍🏼

Been here a few times mainly for brunch - does great eggs benedict.this time we went for evening meal after a visit to the Christmas Botanics so we were chilled to the bone. The Roseleaf exudes warmth ,cosy place to spend an evening made better by the staff who are always cheerful attentive and friendly. Food was very non pretentious and ideal for a cold winters evening. They do macaroni cheese to die for and on our visit were serving a turkey and leek pie, like a Christmas dinner in pastry .very satisfying I ordered waffles for dessert which looked nice but as my daughter nicked most of it I can’t say much more. A great place to visit when in leith but try to book ahead ,it gets busy

100% best brunch we've had in Edinburgh (or anywhere). Absolutely delicious food, very filling but not too heavy. Lovely atmosphere (major Alice in Wonderland vibes with cocktails served in a teapot and cups and decorative hats everywhere you look). Social distancing/hygiene on point and all guest sanitise their hands when entering. We will definitely be back to try more of their fantastic menu!

A lovely quirky bar/restaurant, visited today for an early evening meal. All the menu options had cute names, I ordered Barry’s beet burger, hubby had pulled pork. Unfortunately a beef burger was brought and as a vegetarian I was a bit shocked!! I mentioned to the waitress the error and it was quickly rectified. The bar had a lovely friendly feel and was totally COVID compliant so just want to say thanks to the staff and also for the free drink.

Most visitors to Leith will probably be tempted by one of the many waterside pubs and eateries which make the most of the port's potential, but after wandering into Roseleaf a couple of years back by chance after a stroll down the Water Of Leith path it's our preferred destination. The location isn't exactly Insta material but once you step across the threshold you get a cosy interior with plenty of curios, a lived in look that's a welcome contrast to more corporate venues, unfailingly cheerful and efficient staff, decent beer, an interesting menu - everything appeals, but the biggest attraction is the overall vibe. Recommended.

Had a meal with parents today. They have made a huge effort to make this place Covid safe. Lots of spacing between tables. Plenty of hand sanitiser. And every time a member of staff passed the wall sanitiser they cleaned their hands. The menu covered all dietary requirements and the food was delicious. It is just a charming bar cafe, and can highly recommend it, especially for those looking for a safe place to eat, during these testing Covid times.
