I visited here on Saturday night, very impressed at first with décor and atmosphere. Waited 20 minutes before anyone served us and we actually had to ask for drinks. Food was lovely, cannot fault it however our starters were taken away whilst we were still eating as they told us our main course was coming, meal was very rushed. Served... More

Our food came with a great selection of sauces that complimented the already superb tasting dishes that we ordered. The spices in the dish were flavoursome, and it is hard to describe why that is special in a spiced dish, but I guess it is the right mix of spices that don't overpower the other flavours, and in fact enhance... Part of our group found this while looking for a place to eat on our last night in Edinburgh. We had to wait a little while for them to prepare us our table, we were a group of 6 adults and a child. The food was great, and I was full and super happy to find that most everything was... More

We visited the Indian Cavalry Restaurant completely spontaneously - we'd actually intended to go further into town to eat, but we decided to try this one. So glad we did. Excellent food, good service. We ate around 7pm and it was very quiet - only one other table was occupied. When we passed it again later in the evening it... More

Went for dinner with work colleagues. We were the only people in the restaurant at 8pm. The menu was limited, but the food was reasonably priced and tasted fantastic. The staff were very attentive and made us feel very welcome. Would definitely eat there again

We went there for a pre theatre dinner...we were offered popadoms and mango chutney, red onions and a yogurt dip.....this is a very normal starter in most Indian restuarants we go to....however the limited choice of main was disappointing.....I had chicken tikka masala, the chicken was tough and the sauce tasted of too much condensed tomato soup... My husband had... More

Popped in for an Indian meal at the end of our first day in Edinburgh and weren't disappointed. The menu selection was varied and house specialties available, so not the same as every other Indian restaurant. The staff were excellent & very attentive. Would recommend going if you're u. Edinburgh.

It was our first stay in Edinburgh and had not managed to find the place we were looking for, so as it was late on a Sunday we relied on a cab driver to find us somewhere to eat. It looks pretty good from outside but have had much better and cheaper curries elsewhere. The service was ok but the... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
