We came here with my father-in-law in a cold November. All of us had the tasting menu with matching wine. What a lovely surprise! We loved every single course and the service is brilliant! It is a must visit if you are looking for something special when you are in Edinburgh. Highly recommend!

We visited this highly recommend restaurant in Edinburgh. It was good service, nice atmosphere and good food. However I was a bit disappointed. Although it was a nice experience, I do demand more for this kind of price level.

This was a wonderful finale to our vacation. The tasting dinner was excellent. The wines that were paired with the menu were wonderful, and carefully selected to bring out the flavors of each dish. The restaurant staff were professional, courteous and knowledgeable. The restaurant was quite pretty, very quiet and elegant, good for conversation. All in all, it was a... More

The food is exceptional as is the service. Expensive, but you pay for what you get. There were three of us and we had arrived that day from Australia. The staff were excellent - two of us had the tasting plates and the third a light meal from the menu. All were excellent. Perhaps not a true Scottish experience, but... More

Since we last visited, the restaurant has been redecorated and it is now much less dark and oppressive feeling. The bar area is small and slightly cramped but perfectly comfortable for a pre-meal drink. Food was spectacular in presentation and taste. The service was friendly, attentive and seemed just "right" for the style and quality of restaurant. All in all,... More

Very good service . Near the castle location . Loved the starters. Ordered the beef as main course and I was a bit disappointed as the meat was not as tender . My meal was 50 for 3 course so I kind of expected more.

Fantastic restaurant. Went for birthday meal with partner. Had taster menu, what can I say except excellent service, food and ambience. 150 mile trip to eat here but worth every mile and more

Personally I can't fault this restaurant in any way. The food is beautiful, the presentation is outstanding, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We had the set lunch menu, at £29.50 per person a more affordable prospect than the much higher prices in the evening. Each course was delightful and we loved the extra little 'amuse-bouches'. We liked it that... More

Been another couple of times since my last review. What to say, the cuisine at this restaurant has it all: technique, inventiveness, playfulness, absolutely top ingredients. Michelin is of course free to award stars as it pleases, but in my humble opinion the current lack of a star for this place (and I have not insignificant experience of starred restaurants)... More

This was our second visit, having had lunch here 3 years ago! Some changes have been made to the layout and decor since then but the food is just as good. Service, after an early stutter , was very good. But it was the food we came for and it did not disappoint. Excellently presented and cooked, it was a... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
