We popped into Em’s Kitchen for a quick breakfast before work this week. It was nice to receive a warm welcome. Impressed by the range and value of offerings we opted for a couple of filled breakfast rolls, tea and coffee. Food is freshly cooked and tasty. Service is friendly and efficient and made us feel like valued customers. It wasn’t expensive and compares very favourably to other cafes in the city centre for value, service and quality. I see they do lunches as well so will definitely go back to give them a try too.

Came across this cafe as we were staying in the travelodge directly opposite, we had breakfast here and the food was lovely and fresh . I can recommend the wee scran breakfast, great value ! There is a good selection of food and drinks to choose from. The cafe is ideally situated for a visit to the royal mile and the castle is about a 10 mins walk up the hill. If im staying at the travelodge i will certainly visit ems kitchen again. Keep up the good work !!

We never believe a hotel receptionist when they recommend a restaurant just over the road. But the Travelodge guys are definitely onto something. With a bit of reassurance from fellow TripAdvisors, we pottered across on our first morning and were impressed with the range of food on offer. The service, the presentation and the taste were all part of well judged formula that turned us into firm fans straight away. Even the niggliest daughter had to admit that the bananas on her Nutella pancakes were beautifully sliced! It would be great to see home made jam with the (sliced and lightly toasted) croissants in future. And it was a shame they had run out of Hollandaise sauce on a Sunday, meaning we couldn't try the signature eggs benedict. But these Covid times are confusing... And we felt safe, with doors at both end blowing fresh air through, staff masked up and plenty of space between tables. If you want quick bacon butty, this isn't maybe for you. But if you want a big and tasty 'Welcome to Edinburgh', these breakfasts are just the job.

After coming across ems kitchen on trip advisor me and my partner fought we would take it upon ourselves to visit on our visit to edinburgh. The place is so bare with white walls in the middle room and the back room is nice if it’s a nice day as the back doors can stay open. Service was okay within minutes of sitting down our orders where taken however breakfast wow a little steap guys £11 for a breakfast I’m going to be honest I’m a little bit surprised it was nothing special I could have went to any local pub or the hotel and got the same breakfast for a fiver. The food don’t get me wrong was nice but it wasn’t like amazing and better than other places it was just a started breakfast. Definitely don’t go here if your planning for a cheap quick breakfast I was £30 for two breakfasts and two hot drinks. Don’t think I would return as prices are a little steap and nothing special or standout to any other cafe or restaurant in edinburgh.

Whilst staying at the Travelodge opposite, we thought we'd try em's kitchen for breakfast. We were directed straight to our table but them had a lengthy wait before or order was taken and an even longer wait before or meal arrived. We had the full Scottish breakfast and coffee, will half a cup. It was quite underwhelming for the price of over £25 for two. One small sausage one thin slice of haggis and one thin slice of black pudding the smallest bit of tomato possible, Fatty bacon and a small fried egg with beans in a little pot. Not what seemed to be advertised from previous reviews. Quite disappointed.

Came across this place on trip advisor as rated number 1 in Edinburgh. Perfectly located opposite the travelodge and just off the royal mile. Small inside but cute. Excellent choice and reasonably priced food, great portion size. Love the fact you can interchange items on the full breakfasts at no extra costs. Delicious food. Only down side was soft drinks did seem slightly over priced.

The breakfasts here were amazing and very reasonably priced. My boyfriend and I have been twice this weekend and during our second trip the waiter remembered that I liked my bacon well done which added a nice personal touch. Will most likely be going back tomorrow!

Pancakes were very nice but too expensive. The portions were big but not worth £25 for breakfast because no one wants to eat that much, we only managed half each, they could do with smaller size options. Also disappointed they aren’t doing the eat out like everywhere Else.

Called in on a recent stay in Edinburgh as it was close to the hotel and it had started raining but I am so glad we did. We were a party of 4 adults and a toddler, the waiter who was doing a million and one jobs on his own (all very effeciently mind and with a smile) managed to accomodate us by moving a smaller party which was very much appreciated. The food was outstanding, I had the pancakes with banana and nutella and they were the best pancakes I have ever had. There were plenty of veggie options on the menu too so it was nice to have a wide variety of choices. The waiter is an absolute credid to the buisness and was very attentive and even managed to chase after us as we had left a toy behind (even though the place was really busy). Wouldn't think twice about visiting again next time I am in Edinburgh and all covid regulations were being followed completley.

I woke up from my stay in the local hostel not very well rested as it was extremely hot and uncomfortable. I went out for some breakfast and at about 07:50 stumbled upon Em's kitchen which opens at 8 am. The friendly and kind gentleman inside welcomed me in early and allowed me to plug in my laptop whilst we waited for the Barista to arrive. The Barista arrived on time and immediately took my order, which was very welcome. Coffee and food arrived within good time, well presented and well cooked. Being this is my first time in Scotland, I decided to try the Scottish Breakfast which came with Haggis and Tattie Scone (both of which are new to me!). Can't say much about the Haggis unfortunately (personal preference) but the Tattie Scone was lovely! If only we had this on our breakfasts in England. Recommend Em's Kitchen for friendly service and good breakfast (card payment available)!

I went in for breakfast and ordered the pouched eggs with sourdough bread, avocado and sun dried tomatoes. The presentation looked amazing as well as the taste. The flat white was done just right - rich coffee taste! Lastly, I wanted some cake- got carrot and it was fresh and soft. The staff took my order as soon as i sat down and asked if everything was ok when I got my food. Very friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back here!

Lovely little place just off the Royal Mile. We had the English and Scottish breakfasts and came back another day for eggs Benedict. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and service is very friendly and welcoming

Just eaten at Ems Kitchen delicious breakfast would highly recommend. Found this little gem on trip advisor and well worth the half an hour walk in the rain to get here. Service was great and staff friendly if ever in Edinburgh again we will be re visiting .

Em’s kitchen is one of my favourite places in Edinburgh and I can’t recommend them enough. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the food is amazing. I will often go here to study as the atmosphere is lovely and calm. I’ve tried much of the menu and would recommend the eggs benedict, pancakes (though the portions are huge), miniature breakfast and their bagels. If you’re considering visiting, definitely do. Great service and great food!

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
