The service was good but food and drinks were not. We ordered martinis, they said they knew how to make them and brought us essentially a vodka and lemonade. The onion soup had no cheese on top and no flavor. The escargot were tiny. I hade steak and shrimp and it was okay. The steak was cooked correctly but didn't... More

I did not know that "American style" French food existed! Did you expect the snail in the Martini ? and is cheese on top different to cheese on the bottom ? Sorry you did not like us, mais Francais nous le resterons! More

Super tasty food friendly staff and vibrant atmosphere. Sea bass was delicious as were the seafood kebabs. Will be back for sure.

...at his suggestion was a really pleasant surprise. Chez Jules may appear cheap and cheerful, but it's also chic and charming. Very busy and also buzzy. Staff who really look after you in this cheek by jowl eaterie. I loved the atmosphere. At lunchtime you can choose from the extensive à la carte menu, or you may choose 1, 2... More

Went for dinner whilst in Edinburgh on business. Made to feel very welcome. 'Free' appetiser of salad, saucisson, cornichon and very fresh French bread. I had rib eye steak which came with potatoes. Steak great, potatoes a bit dull (didn't seem to be dauphinois, expected them to be creamier or maybe gratin dauphinois is different the pomme version). Great sticky... More

We had a nice lunch here today. Onion soup to start and beef with pepper sauce for the main course. Two courses with 500ml of house wine for £27 which was good value. Service was quick and food was served hot.

I and a group of freinds were enticed by their recent promotion of ***FREE FOOD intent on getting people to sample their wares and hopefully rebook. Well it paid off. putting the fact my main course of Sea Bass from a choice of that, steak or Coq-au-vin. The food was FANTASTIC, and I as many people do consider myself a... More

Recently visited this lovely restaurant when visiting Edinburgh. Very busy with a lively atmosphere, service was great as was the food. We received a warm welcome from the French owner and hope to visit the capital and this restaurant again soon!

Get yourself to chez jules. What a find. £5.90 for steak au poivre. Free salad, the freshest French bread ever and saucisson on the table to start and a litre of water. Note for visitors: Edinburgh tap water is better than most bottles. Wife had coq au vin. Loved it. Bottle of house red and a great lunch for under... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
