Have eaten here for years but not been for a while. Went back and was as if we never left. Very friendly and welcoming along with great food and amazing atmosphere. Will be returning on a regular basis. Great city centre French bistro. Good to have a catch up with Pierre and Mark.

Four of us went for lunch on a Saturday recently. Advise that you book, it is very busy, we were there on a Saturday. The restaurant is lively with a very good atmosphere. Service is quick and there were plenty of staff.Loved the prices, especially for two courses £7.90, what great value and the House red at £14.95 is another... More

Chez Jules is as close as you'll get to a real french bistro! Simple well cooked specialities, friendly service, lively atmosphere and good prices. Within a very short walk of Princes Street, right in the heart of the New Town, this is a great place for (very reasonable) lunch or evening meal. You'll get a brilliant 2 course lunch for... More

Me and my boyfriend visited the restaurant yesterday and we had an amazing time. The restaurant was busy (which I've read some people complain about) but this wasn't an issue and is the sign of a good place. We could still have a conversation easily. The waitresses were amazing. They all seemed happy and good at their jobs. Our waitress,... More

The sound level was a bit high when we entered but that changed and we were soon enjoying an excellent meal of steaks in different sizes and in my case with wonderful prawns. We had a wine from Chile that fitted perfectly. The restaurant is kind of French in style but with few trimmings, that is no cloth on the... More

Used to love this place, thought the atmosphere and food is great, however the last visit was quite disappointing. The plates were dirty, all greasy at the bottom and had dried up food stains on the top. We asked for new plates which we received but by then the trust and appetite was sort of spoiled. The meal was disrupted... More

My last visit here was on the run up to Christmas, I came for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by their Christmas lunch menu. Was had three lovely courses, as well as complimentary bread/meats/salad and a bottle of wine for around £50. The food was quick and very fresh and the place has a great buzzing atmosphere.

I ate here with 2 friends for lunch. On arrival the place was packed, that's a good sign We were greeted by a member of staff, who took us to our table. This is a small and has a very rustic feel and reminds me of many rural cafes in France. As we sat down we were given menus and... More

A group of 7 of us had a great meal the night before Hogmanay. The restaurant was packed yet the staff kept us all happy. Fantastic mussels, tender steak and amazing crepe Suzettes. Always great food at Chez Jules and a lively, informal atmosphere. Merci!

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
