It really is all in the name "Tempting Tattie", located within a short walk from the train station and just off the Royal Mile, it's certainly a hidden gem amongst all the other small cafes in the area. It is all down to earth, no frills... just straight baked potatoes and toasties without the need of being fancy!
Staff are always so friendly/bubbly and with the large amount of fillings available, you can't go wrong with any combination. The tatties are slightly overpriced but for being Edinburgh and in an ideal location, you can let them off.
If you are looking for a quick bite to eat or something to takeaway, don't hesitate to be "Tempted by the Tattie!"

It was completely by accident that I bumped into this place, as I was looking for a quick lunch, and being a potato lover, I was prepared for something nice. And I got so much more!! :) I told the owner I was vegetarian, and he quickly assembled something incredibly delicious from potatoes, cheese, and a chickpea-based dish. It was so good, I went back every day during my stay in Edinburgh! Very friendly service, great price. Can warmly recommend it anyone! (not only vegetarians)

Whenever I am in Edinburgh and needing food on the go I gravitate to this place; I have been getting excellent takeaways from here for years. It provides what is says in the name. Large and tasty spuds with generous portions of filling… and now with paper-based bowls 😊

My family had mac and cheese chicken burgers with fries and I had salt and pepper fries. All were freshly cooked and delicious. We all ate the lot and were full. Looking forward to going back again. We were needing to catch a quick dinner ahead of a bus tour, and we decided to go to a place we’d walked by the previous day and thought looked good. I’m so glad we did!
Who would have thought that a completely dressed up baked potato could be so good and filling. I had the Tartan Tikka potato, delicious! Big baked potato, piled high with cheese and topped with a cold Tim’s chicken salad with huge chunks of chicken.
Highly recommend trying the place out and it won’t break the bank!

Peter Penguin and I happened to look down the street and Tempting Tattie caught my eye! What a perfect idea for lunch or a midday snack! I ordered the cheddar potato with salt, pepper and butter. Simple never tastes so good! My potato was perfectly cooked - soft and sweet on the inside, slightly crispy and chewy on the outside. Everything melted together in pure harmony. I need a Tempting Tattie in my neighborhood. Peter Penguin 🐧 gives it 2 chef kisses!

We have now visited the Tempting Tattie three times in the last couple of months. The owner always makes us feel welcome and the food is delicious. Tasty fillings, plenty to choose from and really delicious - chilli, butter chicken, chickpea rogan josh - all made to family recipes. There are also delicious homemade puddings. Definitely recommend to local residents and visitors alike.

Visited today with girlfriend . I have loved this place for years but today I found out that it's changed ownership . And because of this it only serves halal meat . Which means no haggis and all the meat is halal only. There is no warning of this before entering establishment . And only found out because I asked for haggis and server said they don't serve haggis because new owner is Muslim and because of his religion only halal meat is served.
You are in Edinburgh the capital of Scotland and can't get haggis on your baked potato!!
Won't be back again .

We arrived in Edinburgh mid afternoon and due to our plans needed something filling to last us. We stumbled upon this just around the corner from our hotel, and thought it perfect for a late lunch. I had the standard sized jacket with chilli con carne, and my pal had the standard sized jacket with chicken tikka. To note - they offer standard and large and the standard was huge!! Can eat in or takeaway. Would imagine its very popular at lunchtime, and rightly so! Would go back.

My husband and I had lunch at the tempting tatties whilst in Edinburgh. What a delightful little place. Very clean and a wide range of options for your jacket potatoes.
I had a traditional cheese, my husband had the spicy chickpeas one, both were excellent, huge portions and very tasty. My coffee was also very nice, better than the other famous coffees! Sami who served us and I believe is the owner was so friendly and chatty. If you’re visiting Edinburgh, do pop in for a hearty meal. I wish the business well deserved success !

Visited Temping Tatties whilst staying in Edinburgh for a few days, we just wanted a quick lunch to take back to our apartment. Honestly the best jacket potatoes we have ever had. We had chicken Chinese curry as the filling and it was delicious. Will definitely visit again next time in Edinburgh.

The best baked potato I have ever had anywhere. Had the double with cheese and chilli which was huge!! The guy behind the counter was so lovely and so polite. My daughter has just been accepted for the university here so this is going to be a regular haunt!

Visited here for lunch. The man who served us was very friendly. Portion sizes were huge. The boys ordered haggis which wasn't the best choice of filling. My daughter and I were less adventurous and ordered cheese and prawn marie rose both of which were excellent.

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
