Hahaha OMG ! Just walk by and head to another bar/restaurant. There is a great Brewery up the road even. -Rude/bad/unreasonable/judging attitudes -Condescending, couldn't wait for us to leave -Made us feel extremely unwelcome -Wine was warm and the warm marble cooler didn't help Having...frequented The $hit on the shore many times in the past, and recently returning to Edinburgh. I am am actually not sure what has happened to the place. After taking the Waterway walk from Murrayfield on a Sunday afternoon, we found ourselves outside Ship OS basked in sunshine as we reached the shore. We decided to have a post picnic lunch bottle of wine and snack in the sun. Putting our kids in our view at a table in the shade, short redhair, promptly moved them back leaving them toasting and staring into the sun. We advised that we didn't have sunblock for them and were advised that there was a Sainsbury's up the road. (Admittedly they were taking up another larger table and we advised that they could move them when required) never got used the whole time we were there. Wine arrived, staff proceeded to top it up repeatedly with such pace before the glasses were finished, asking if we were staying for another, when we said no they presented the bill before we had even finished, then within minutes another server asked if we would like the contactless to pay, advised that we again would like to finish our drinks. We then paid and the glasses were cleared before we even pulled a sweater on. Maybe we are small fry only spending nearly 60£ on wine and chips, I'm not sure. I'm enjoying reading the other recent 1* reviews online though, lucky we only had chips ... Blughhh Best you look after the locals, the tourists £'s are only for a short time.More

The Ship On the Shore is a beautiful restaurant with very friendly staff. The fish is fresh and delicious. Highly recommend the sea bass ceviche and the fish pie was the absolute best I’ve ever had!

We traveled all over the UK and this was by far the best meal we had! I had risotto with smoked haddox which was melt in your mouth wonderful, and my husband had the linguine with seafood and was also superlative. Clearly the chef there...knows what they are doing. Excellent, friendly service too.More

If you love fish then you will love the Ship on the Shore restaurant. We visited as a family on a Wednesday evening and every table was busy, so booking is a must! I had the salmon and my husband had the haddock and chips....It was very nicely done and service was fairly quick.More

Took my son and his girlfriend here after his graduation. The food was fantastic and service could not be bettered. One of the waitresses was on her first night and was doing really well whilst learning on the job, she was like the rest of...the team friendly and helpful. We all had 3 courses with varied selections from the menu from surf and turf to sea food linguine. Every element of every dish was excellent. I really can’t understand some of the negative reviews I’ve read. We had a fantastic evening food, service and the pleasant lively atmosphere were truly outstanding. It finished a special day perfectly. I recommend this restaurant very highly.More

Delicious seafood. The service was very slick and attentive. The tables were quite close together but not too crammed. We had the chowder (very tasty) and the seafood linguine (ditto). If you like seafood, this is a good choice.

Casual place for lunch. Nice staff. The house white was pretty horrible but we really enjoyed the smoked seafood platter. The smoked trout in particular was delicious.

Wonderful food as usual. I had a Prawn Cocktail, salad and chips. Brother had 6 oysters and salmon with new potatoes. The prawns were large fat and tasty..at least 8. Served with a yummy prawn cocktail sauce . Hot scrumtious chips with tomato ketchup on...the side and a deliciously dressed chopped salad plus a glass of cold chablis-HEAVEN! The staff despite the restaurant being full with never ending groups arriving , remained cheerful, efficient and unflustered. Kind too...Ran out with my cardigan which I had forgotten. It's not cheap but in the words of our beloved Tina Turner "SIMPLY THE BEST!"More

Fantastic quality of food! some of the freshest seafood you will find. Started with a half dozen oysters followed by one of the best surf and turfs I have ever had. 8oz rib eye (medium rare) and a half native lobster, fished off with a...crème brulee and an old fashioned. Compliments to the barmaid who took the time to make a proper old fashioned!! Great selection of wines and whiskey too.More
