I had not been here for a while but will be back soon. The building is handy for public transport and parking and is a very attractive, character-full building. We were greeted by the batman and ushered upstairs to a cosy, window table. The service...More

A lovely little french restaurant within the backstreets of central Edinburgh. Food was excellent but could have been just that little bit hotter ( especially the plates). Staff were extremely polite. Well worth a visit We had lunch at £20 per head inc a glass...More

I am so very sad that this delightful restaurant is to close next month. My husband and I have enjoyed our visits here - a round trip of 150 miles - for many years. Sophie and her team have been absolutely brilliant and have built...More

We popped in off chance on Saturday night for the first time in a while and wish we'd come back more often. It was - as ever - very good. My main of seabass with a crab bisque was beautiful although I'm not sure what...More

Unbelievable that the Frederick Street restaurant will shut next month. Whenever we have something to celebrate or special people to entertain we book here. It is always always excellent and Sophie is fantastic. We have booked again for their last evening and urge everyone to...More

We visited one of our habitual haunts in Edinburgh for lunch on Thursday. For the past twelve years we have been lunching at the wonderful slice of France most times we are in Town. Everything about this place just hits the spot. But the whole...More

My wife and I have eaten here several times; it is one of our favourites in Edinburgh. At our most recent visit my wife had steak and I had duck - both were delicious and perfectly prepared. We are extremely disappointed to learn that the...More

We are seriously disappointed to hear that this great little restaurant has been taken over - not usually a problem unless there is to be a change of format which seems to be the case. We don't understand why any savvy owner would ignore the...More

Busy lunchtime, pre Christmas but this did not impact the quality of the food or the service. We had the same experience last year. All of us delighted on both occasions. Service is friendly, relaxed but very efficient which adds to the atmosphere.

New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town,
until after dark when strappy dresses come out to
play. This is the city’s central business district
with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many
of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest
clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street
helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned
Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric

Its name meaning the little madness, Edinburghs La Ptite Folie is, in many ways, a very sensible dining option indeed. Its quirky set up simply oozes Parisian chic from every floorboard and film poster, with deep red walls and dark wood furniture creating a warm, cosy vibe. It perhaps comes as little surprise that the mainstay of the La Ptite Folie menu then is the very best of traditional French food Moules Mariniere, sirloin steak with beurre Maitre dHotel and so on served in an unfussy way, cooked beautifully and simply. The wine list is as much an attraction as the menu too, with a wide range of fine wines from around the world and, naturellement, from France itself.
