We stopped in here for lunch after touring the Castle. We were seated right away. Drink selection is quite large. Menu options for lunch look quite tasty. My wife had the lunch special Soup du jour with filled roll (she opted for chicken salad). I had the soup du jour and the lunch special of steak with mushroom sauce and... More

Popped in at 13:30 for lunch with m daughter after a 3hour 15 min trip from Manchester before visiting the Castle. We got a table immediately. Ordered and only had to wait 15 minutes for service. Superb. I ordered Lamb Stovie @ £8.75 and my daughter and egg sandwich @ £5.25. Not challenging servicing. Portions were very small. I know... More

I booked a dinner there for a group of 50pax. Food was excellent. The chef was very flexible with a couple of dietary requirements which we did not know about. Service was superb. I definitely recommend it!!!

Visited as part of the Edinburgh Tattoo Bruce Package. It included a three course tasting menus with wine and whisky. Firstly, the staff were very friendly and attentive. The Amber room is beautiful and a lovely dinner venue. The food was excellent and whilst I know it was a tasting menu, I was left hungry. Given the price paid for... More

We visited this attraction, barrel ride explains the making of Whiskey, met by guide called Hugh, talked us through the different types of whiskey, malt and blended, taught us how to appreciate and taste the amber nectar , tasted a sample, given a beautiful glass, saw the most wonderful display of malts, followed by a lovely lunch in the Amber... Ambient surroundings, very pleasant friendly staff. We enjoyed Scotch on the Rocks a selection of Scottish seafood, which was delicious, served with a dram of whisky. A starter of Isle of Bute smoked Salmon roulade, Carpaccio of Highland Venison cured with treacle & whisky served with Venison charcuterie, my favourite! Haggis bon bon, delicious! Bonnets goats cheese wellington. Just a... More

A great little restaurant below a fully stocked whisky shop. This place has its own whisky bar! Every whisky you can think of, and dozens you can't! Food was great and prices are reasonable. The cake they have behind the counted is very nice and well worth a try!

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
