My group of 13 descended on this restaurant for lunch without a reservation. The staff could not have been more accommodating. The food was terrific - I had the mixed green salad with grilled steak. A couple of friends got the haggis and it was delicious!

Here for a birthday meal. Myself and my 2 kids. We are from the ala carte menu. Recommend the tapas as a starter - selection of 5 small appetisers showing some of the best of Scottish food - real good. For main courses - the pots were a bit different. We also had the monkfish and the duck - both... More

Booked via opentable and table was ready on time for us. Servers were knowledgeable about the food and drinks, attentive but discreet. Food was served in a timely manner, piping hot, perfectly cooked and very tasty. Would definitely recommend to visit and would eat here again. The haggis, tatties and neeps with whisky sauce was absolutely delicious. Everyone in our... More

Stopped in for lunch and had an excellent meal at a very reasonable price. My wife and I shared 5 drams of whisky and all could be had at very reasonable prices. The food was excellent and the menu well selected to pair with various styles of Scotch Whisky. Enjoyed it very much and would return for a nice dinner... More

Good high-end-ish Scottish food. The haggis comes in a little castiron pot, topped with mashed potatoes. The duck breast is served with a duck confit bonbon. The banana-coconut bread pudding is excellent. Then of course there's the large selection of whiskies, quite reasonably priced. A great conclusion to the Scotch Whisky Experience Museum. I would recommend ordering a la carte... More

Trying to find a good restaurant in a city, as a tourist, can often be a daunting task. We had our experience at Amber with a large group, which really does test the limits of many establishments. Whether you are with a friend or a group, I think you will enjoy this restaurant, located just below the Whisky Experience and... More

Normally I prefer my dining out experiences in other countries to feel a bit more "authentic" -- like, pubs or street food -- as opposed to upscale, so I admit I was a little disappointed when my mother-in-law chose this place for lunch one day, since it's the sort of nice restaurant that feels like it could be anywhere in... We got to the Whiskey Experience too late for the last tour, but instead found a great dinner at the Amber Restaurant. There were a large variety of fine/traditional dishes to choose from. We chose some of the "Taste of Scotland" experience. All very tasty! Being downstairs from the Whiskey Experience, they also had an extensive list of single malts... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
