We initially used McKirdy's due to its close proximity to the Haymarket Premier Inn. Six adults visited (3 x couples ) and we took advantage of their 'early bird set menu' which made a two course meal with a couple of drinks a lot more affordable compared to their standard menu. Check their website for timings but we think it's... More

Had a good meal at McKirdy's tonight. Unfortunately my instant pick, steak tartare, was not available anymore but still menu. There was plenty of choice on the menu though, with options to please even picky eaters and our request for unmarinated chicken was executed without question. The pate, mixed grill and accompanying fries, onion rings and vegetables were all very... More

We waited for five minutes and were totally ignored by two waitresses. One was on the till no idea what the other was doing. This relates to the Morrison st branch. When we were shown to our table we were ignored again and waited ages to have a drinks order taken. We won't be coming back.

We both went for the mixed grill. It included steak, chicken, home made sausages, haggis, black pudding, and a big lamb chop. It was delicious but you need to have a big appetite. For afters we shared a cheeseboard but they only had the Cheddar available, but that was very tasty. You can tell that this restaurant also owns it's own... More

I eat here rather on the run during a busy visit to Edinburgh. The restaurant was busy, Festival time, but the service was good and the food was excellent.

When visiting Edinburgh McKirdy's is a must. It's the most delicious food particularly burger I've ever had. Burgers I've had before & thought were great don't even compare to McKirdy's. You can tell McKirdy's is owned by a butcher because all the meat is of the best quality & cooked to perfection. My partner had the mixed grill & said... More

We visited this restaurant since our hotel recommended and it they were very right on doing that. Their steaks are fantastic and for a fair price. The restaurant itself is not big, and the staff gave us a lot of attention and were friendly

We visited this restaurant due to its reviews online. I must say if you like your meat this is the restaurant for you, You could not fault the steak or the food I had the most gorgeous cheesecake for dessert. It is quite a small restaurant, so if you are claustrophobic stay away. The value for money was good as... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
